I ordered the $75 SKS deal from Marstar and it arrived today. It's a # 316 with a short barrel lug, side mounted sling swivels and stamped trigger group. A couple hours with some varsol, brake cleaner and WD40 and I've got it pretty clean. The stock would be really nice if it weren't for a few dings but that's to be expected from a rifle that been in storage for over 30 years. I took the firing pin out of the bolt and got it moving freely and I opened 1 of the cans of ammo so all I got to do now is get out to the range tomorrow and test it out.

For some reason my SKS shoots better with the bayonet on and out. Honest, it’s like it changes the harmonics of the barrel so much that I actually gets 5inch groups instead of large pizza box size groups.

Honestly, thats a decent looking SKS!! Looks pretty much exactly like mine right down to the wood and stamping. Mine doesn't have the Chinese characters on it though. I believe I have read that the SKS will shoot better with the bayonet extended, that it was designed like that.
Cheers!!

 Guess,I have to try this one out! Wonder if that would work with a similar weight bipod too?

what yardage we talkin here?

100 meters so slightly further than 100 yards. But yea I'm serious; the gun shoots better with the bayonet extended out. I was getting pissed off that I would only get 3 shots on paper at 100 meters and a guy at the range next to me said that the SKS shoots better when the bayonet is extended out so I gave it a try. All five shots on paper 5 inch group. Tried it again to make sure it wasn't a fluke and again all five shots on paper 5inch group. I then put the bayonet back and back to s**tty 3 shots on paper with an 8 inch group.

It was a great day to go to the range today, +1 by about 2:00. I shot 140 round through the SKS without any problems. What amazes me is I didn't have to turn a screw on the sights. I started at 50 meters shooting from a bench rest and moved out to 75 after about 50 rounds. This thing shoots better than I'd hoped. Pretty good for open sights I think!

I should have stopped after the first shot on this target, it was a lucky bullseye. I couldn't even see the rings on the target at 75, I was just shooting for the center of the page.

I have found the same with my 2 Chinese SKS's. Bayo out does make a difference. I've tested 100m and 200m from bench using a wooden frame to hold the rifle steady and you can see a noticeable difference in groups. Plus it looks like it would kill 10 kitten's instantly with the bayonet extended so that helps too!

So, if you were to remove the bayo would you get bayo in or bayo out accuracy? Just curious, I don't understand how this is making a difference...is it just the balancing of the gun?

I can attest that the bayonet attached to my Mosin Nagant 91/30 makes a huge difference in accuracy, but with my 3 SKS's (2 Russian and a Chicom) it doesn't matter at all. All three shoot very well at 100 meters, with little or no variations in groupings with the bayo extended or folded. (Just means I have to clean the bayo afterwards for firing corrosive ammo:p)
