Shed Hunting

Yeah she's quite the hunter already. I've seen her go into a steady "point" a few times with her right front paw lifted and her tail straight(well fairly straight) .
To-morrow, when my two young grandsons (5 and 8) come over to gramma and granpa's for an easter egg hunt, will try to go on another "shed" hunt with the puppy ....this time will take the camera .

I know it sounds like a BS story but I know a guy who was offered thousands (can't remember how many) for 1/2 of a pair by the guy who found the other 1/2.

Finally found a set of antlers, not really sheds though.
Found a coyote kill at the back of my buddy's farm and the antlers and skull were still attached to the back bone. Will post Pics tomorrow if I can.
It was an old buck, 9 points, teeth were fairly short and one missing.
Will have someone look at it do determine age.

I've found sheds in one area in the beginning of January. Seen bucks in that same field in mid February still with head gear. I'm not sure why some drop earlier than others, but it happens.

cool.... I have had one drop half his lampshade in mid Jan in my front yard 15 feet from the window then caught a massive one on cam in late Jan in full headgear.... so I guess you have a point ... but December sounds early....

I went out with my mom Last year in early april just as the snow melts. She found one after 4 hours of looking. We went back to look for the other and i found it in 10 minutes, it was about 80 yards from the other one.

I rough scored it to 172" using a 20" spread, with deductions its about 161 4/8"

While on a afternoon walk yesterday, I came across a small band of whitetail, including three bucks, still wearing their head dress. One of the deer had fairly heavy set of antlers, been around a few years.
I haven't seen any sheds this year. I'll try to post the ones I found last spring.

Granddaughters took two of them to school for show and tell. I forgot about those, should be two more on that photo. And they took the biggest ones.
Last year was a tuff year for deer, I found six of the sheds in and around my haystack.

I was talking to my father about sheds just a week ago. He's spent a lot of time in the bush during his life and he's never found a single shed while sugaring, cutting firewood or the like. I'm thinking I just might have to go out and look for some this year.
