I believe it's like N570 in the sense that it's kernels are HUGE, which limits it to applications with very big cases. Smaller calibers that are overbored can't necessarily take advantage of it because the kernel size limits how much of it you can stuff into a case.

That could be the case, and I'm eager to see for myself. Quickload lists it as being very dense, even moreso than US869 (a ball powder), and about the slowest powder available, next to 20N29.

I would just call Alliant and ask before spending money on the powder, unless I had a caliber that I knew it could still be used in. I was excited about N570 until I found out about the kernel size which made the powder useless to me.

6.5-300 Win Mag, 6.5 RUM, and 300 RUM with heavier bullets, i.e. 140 and 160 gr with the 6.5's, and 208 gr and heavier with the 300.

I have US869 as well as H50BMG, but wanted to know how the other "slow as charcoal powders" like 20N29 and Reloder 50 might work. I am interested in their density, and burn rates relative to US869, which is very slow and very dense. I scoured the Internet and came up with nothing, so I'll try them out and share the results.

I thought RL22 was supposed to be the definitive 300WM powder. Not that I'm arguing, I don't know enough to. I just read this somewhere, acted on it, and gotta say I'm delighted with the result.

Are you guys thinking "bigger bullets" ?

Not 300 WM, 6.5-300 WM - a 300 WM necked down to 6.5mm. Reloder 50 is designed for the 50 BMG, but would be suitable for other cartridges with low "expansion ratios" (large case capacity relative to bore diameter).

You could use it in the 300 WM, but even full cases would not produce anywhere near top velocities, and it might not even produce pressures high enough to burn consistently.
