any reason not to reload 30-30?

remember, when someone talks about the 3030, EVERYONE assumes there are referring to a Lever action Winchester or Marlin.

this may not be the case
there are other rifles out there

but as coppperhead brought up, the OP is a NEW reloader.

as such, should be cautioned to read and READ more, about what they are doing.

Vitaminb, Which rifle are you loading for?
if you give us your information, the 'Seasoned' reloaders on here can give you not only great SAFETY advice, but also some reasonable loading advice.

the 3030 offers no great challenge, but each style of rifle can have it's own idiosyncrasies.

I too would Caution you against Pointy bullets IN TUBE MAGAZINE RIFLES until you understand ALL the reasons that lead to said caution. Then, you make up your own mind.
if you are using a Single shot, like a Rossi, or NEF, or any other single shot, then as long as the bullet is right diameter for the bore, you can probably find load data for it.

I beleave savage made a bolt action in 30/30 as well
edited also found Stevens 325 / Savage 340 Bolt Action, its a great read too.

Remington made some 788's in 3030 as well. I've seen two in my 45yrs as a shooter/collector. I now own one of those. I've shot some cast from it but accuracy was never as good as what I thought it should be. They were popular in Cast Bullet Association postal matches for years (788's in 308 also did well). I've got a couple hundred Hornady Amax that I should try in mine.

I would not load pointed bullets into the tube mag on a Winchester or Marlin.

My Marlin 336 was recently brought back to life with a can of leverevolution powder and 160gr Hornady FTX bullets. I'm using 36gr of leverevolution and getting 2330 fps average velocity, and I can load the full magazine without any worries.

My model 94 shoots the factory leverevolution in a 12" pattern @100 y.
Does it mean it's a waste of time trying to reload them?

What kind of a pattern does it make with standard 170 grain 30-30?

Probably got lucky, but it sure groups.

Papaclaude, I don't suppose that an entire industry's experience, for over 100 years, would have anything to do with the old wive's tale that you can't shoot pointy bullets in tube magazine rifles, eh? I think some old U.S. Army trials had the joyous experience of tube fires, - that's why they use enlisted to do the shooting - and I can't find one manufacturer of either ammo or firearms that recommends the practice, pre the Leverolution development. Me, I'm sticking with flat points or round noses in tube mags, except for 21st century purpose built soft polymers.

But eh, I don't have to make every mistake myself. I can read, and reason, and go with common sense. Now, I respect Gun Digest too, but sometimes, when you get an outlier of one out of thousands, you gotta discard the outlier. (Some guys methodology can be suspect, a trial of a few dozen rounds does not equal a lifetime of use, and a steel pipe does not equal a thin walled tube magazie. I suspect their overall gun weight may have in itself dampend the recoil pulse, but I ware'nt there.) Note it, remember it, and go "Ah Ha!" when it becomes accepted mantra, but in the meantime, no hard spitzers for my 336.

I loaded a box of the Hornady Flex-tips for my M94 yesterday - 33.0 grains of W748.
Should work well. Will find out shortly.
My usual load with the 170 is 32.0 grains of W748 or 30 grains of IMR3031.
My 94 shoots the 170 into just over 1 moa. [receiver sights]

I'll be loading for my winchester 94, it's a SRC i believe. Built in '56, top eject, and I've put a lyman aperture sight on it. Got it from Grampa,(RIP) and took a deer with it in november. It's my favorite rifle. I've tested federal, winchester and hornady factory loads with it. Winchester 150 gr were the best. The main reason to reload for me is that here on Vancouver Island the blacktail deer are pretty small, so I thought a 130 gr bullet might do less damage to the meat.
I had an older friend of mine who was mentoring me on reloading and one of the things he told me about was picking a powder that would fill the case, not compressing the load but leaving little empty space in the case. I have the Speer reloading manual and the loading manual that came with the Lee 50th reload kit. I appreciate everones feedback.

Thanks B
