Holster draw

Most if not all ranges will not allow someone to use a holster for liability reasons unless they have taken some sort of recognized holster course. Check with the range/club you are shooting at.

I wouldn't say most have restrictions on holster use. But some do. The idea that it is more dangerous to draw from a holster than use a gun is ridiculous.

Is it legal to carry and draw from a holster at a range even if you dont have ipsc or black badge training?

Totally illegal yes. The black SUV's and Huey's will come and get you. I kid. It is not illegal in any way shape or form. Your club may have rules about it, but as a member you have a vote, and if you want those rules changed that is your prerogative .

Yes, you have a vote but the executive of your club has the liability. By all means talk to them though and see where it goes. If you are willing to step up and assist with making it a safe situation for your club then your exec should listen to you and have a discussion.

Every club is different both in what types of shooting they want to promote/participate in and what levels safety support/over sight they want to implement.

Regardless, always feel free to talk to your executive about any issue....but fully expect that they will want you to put your money where your mouth is when it comes to changes.

Sorry for the rant. Can you tell what side of the member/executive line I sit on? :D

guy who said most is from ontario, there i believe most if not all have a qualification requirement since the CFOs in the east use an iron fist

last 2 ranges ive belonged to had no certification necessary

Ask this guy if re-holstering can be dangerous ;).

Not so sure what wrong with some instruction to be safe and yes the IPSC Black badge course is excelent :D:D:D:D

I would like to take the black badge course but the only thing stopping me is that i was told by my local black badge instructor that in order to keep my black badge year to year i MUST compete in some ipsc competitions...

I can afford the black badge course but deffinately cant not afford to travel around and compete simply to retain my black badge

Also FYI i attend the sherwood park outdoor range.. If any one here attends and knows if we can holster our side arms?

then just attend the few local shoots that you can ..........with my shift work and family schedule i shoot 2 or 3 ipsc shoots a year . if i attend more then im lucky .

Thanks for the idea...one thing im worried about is that im a field consultant and i am always headed out of town...and if by some stroke of luck i miss the local shoots for the year i will lose my BB...

But then again to be a responsible firearms owner we all must pay the piper every year and do what we need to do inorder to keep our hobby responsible and lawfull
