Holster draw

i just watched that video of the cop shooting himself. halarious. see kids, this is a glock 40. ?????? so he sais he is required to carry a loaded gun for his job. so he cant come across another un-loaded gun to pull out and point at the class?

Depends on the range: each one has different rules.

One range I know of has a rule that if you cross-draw you have to be on the opposite far side of the range. In other words if you are right handed and cross-draw from the left you must be on the far left of the range so the muzzle when drawn is pointed into the berm to the left; and no second shooter cross-drawing from that side can shoot with you.

The range I belong to does not allow cross-draw on official shoots, never asked about casual shooting.

So those just show that different ranges will set different rules: it is your responsibility to find out.

If you are required to do your BB for your range I doubt they will also require you to shoot matches every year. That is only done to keep your BB current FOR IPSC. Once you've done the course your range will likely be fine with you never shooting a match again.

Where and when can I take this Black Badge course?
I've recently moved ranges to the Abb. Fish n Game and would like to take it there if possible..

Regardless, always feel free to talk to your executive about any issue....but fully expect that they will want you to put your money where your mouth is when it comes to changes.

I couldn't agree more. I hate it when people complain about things and offer no solutions or effort to make things better, or make suggestions and won't put in the time, effort or money to implement them. I completely agree. An active membership is a better membership. If everyone worked to move things along we would all be better off.

Ask this guy if re-holstering can be dangerous ;)

Kind of funny that he is a cop, and is "supposedly" the only guy qualified to carry a loaded holstered gun. Pretty sad really. Things do happen, but when they happen to us lowly civilian gun owners they surely get noticed and broadcast all over hells half acre.

True. And if all his range wants is some sort of holster course then he is best to do the IDPA NSO course. The BB course is a shooting course, well worth the money, but I believe (and feel free to correct me if I am wrong) taking it for a holster certification is like becoming a class A mechanic to fill your car with gas.

if the club has a holster qualification and they recognize the IDPA course, then yes, taking it would satisfy the club I guess. In my experience, and this is changing as IDPA grows, more clubs recognize the BB than the IDPA course, of the clubs that care that is.

Now regarding Tex and the dumb nut ATF agent. What Tex did is textbook stupid. he's had holster training. didn't help him at all. The ATF agent wasn't holstering when he shot himself, he was just being stupid with a gun.

thanks guys... i sent an email off to my pistol range Chairman on friday hopefully he gets back to me, if its not allowed thats fine. i just have holsters for my pistols and never use them because im unsure about the range rules and they are not outlined in the range rule book

This will be discussed at length at our next club meeting. One member is asking about a holster course for the outside ranges (as in he would like there to be one) and has pointed out that we have one for shooters on our indoor range.

One of the issues with trying to enforce a course for the outside ranges is that it would be impossible to police. We're a volunteer club, so no caretaker onsite, shooters come and go as they please.

The indoor range is only available when an executive runs a scheduled shoot, it's not available to all members all the time, so it's very easy to enforce there.

As pointed out by some of our members, the outside ranges have this covered in their respective "rules". As in the CAS guys have rules they follow, the IPSC guys have their rules and BB course, the BlackPowder guys have their rules etc.

The only area of real concern would be on the general handgun outside range. Having said that, wer're at 25+ years operating and no problems so far .. so is there a need for a holster course for the outside range? Our members will decide on Thursday.
