M305 is heavy

The M14 is always lots lighter than the GPMG that I carried in the battalion! :D Oh yah, when I asked my Pl Warrant for an SMG or pistol that a machinegunner was supposed to be issued (I studied my Table of Organization Elements), I was told to enjoy carrying the GPMG with my C1A1 to protect me! :eek:

it's basically a GARAND, so it's roughly the same weight, and all the LESSONS LEARNED from that rifle are in the m14- and believe me, they went through all sorts of "experiments " and variants to make that rifle lighter- it CAN'T BE DONE without some sacrifice in other areas- even with the usgi fiberglas stock, you lose maybe a half pound at most-
as for a "paratrooper or folding stock- everything south of the pistol grip is just a couple of rods and a pad, it STILL doesn't subtract much weight- strip the action from the stock, put the trigger assy back on, and weigh that- that's what you're stuck with no matter WHAT stock or method you use- and it weighs about 9.5 pounds-
 
It's not heavy. Actually, it was the same weight as when one fondles it in the store.

Assuming that everyone puts a scope on their rifles, 'cause most do not have irons, a scope and rings weigh about a pound on average.

Most rifles weigh about 7 lbs, more or less empty. With glass on it, that's about 8 lbs. So the basic M14 weighs about 9.5 lbs. With 5 rounds each that's what, what 8.5 vs 10 lbs? 1.5 lbs different?

With those ultra-lights (7 lbs with scope and ammo) that's 3 lbs. 3 blocks of butter. Ummm...that's not heavy....really.
 
even the guys toting the m16 series complain about the weight- just like the chow, the mres, the boots- it goes on forever- you FORGET all that krap in a firefight- it's just pass the ammo- to tell the truth , most gomers/civilains are WHINERS

Now include with 300 rounds in 20rnd mags added, now that is starting to verge on heavy after a long march. We simulated that in the QOR by adding rocks to our gear, then marching 20 miles. Did I mention in 3 feet of snow in a blizzard?:D

It is a little heavy but its worth it as its a great rifle.Get some Garand rear sights ,USGI fiberglass stock and a good op rod spring guide and you will be good to go !!

And to the other guys .....section attacks with the C2 and the chest rig was always fun...just dont be in a hurry ...lol .
Those 30 round mags were pretty chunky. DASH DOWN CRAWL SIGHTS OBSERVE FIRE .

normal rifle

the weight is normal i think that the garand the m14 and the fn fal are the only real rifles and capable for one shot one kill and whenyou run out of ammo they are one swing one kill cou:

push ups, sit ups, chin ups, already sugseted. add rifle pt. some one mentioned the carl g. i remember being in tp recce, a driver/comunicator. after loading the m113 apc onto the troop train, i had to pack and carry, carl g, old gpmg, my fn c1a1 and 50% of the time the wo's 9mm inglis onto the train going to graf, all by myself. ahhh good times, lol.
 
I don't have an M-14 clone anymore, but I found it extremely ergonomic and quick to aim. I also took it hunting, where it claimed two black bears in northern Ontario. I miss that baby.

Squat, dead lift, overhead press, chin ups, rows, push ups, dips, run, run, run.............

if she can lift it, i am sure you can too. I spent Saturday walking around with mine, i almost forgot it was there.
 
A fine rifle is like a fine woman - a little bit of heft in the right places makes her feel better in the hand and accentuates those gracious curves:p And, Don'tkillbill, like a fine woman, a fine rifle can be mounted on or in a jeep.
 
Kidding aside, now we have had fun at someone's expense, I used my M14 twice in CQB. Most people aim before the whistle to shoot. I can tell you the M14 get's damn heavy holding it at the ready. More than once i said "Blow the gawddamed whistle Tim!!"

I bought a Cz 858 after that.
