Metis hunting rights in Manitoba

Tell the whole truth Sksavenger. Saskatchewan has had CWD issues for years where a cull program was implimented. Many non-aboriginal resident people of Saskatchewan purchased doe tags to fill so that they could receive a buck tag. Thats where your big trophy mule deer went south. Be honest with yourself.

This was before CWD come in...but thanks for knowing everything. And the CO's caught and talked to the indians doing it. By the way Track...what did your earlier post say before you edited it :D

One up on you sksavenger.
I made my longbow and I make my own arrows. Like I mentioned before I use my gun for punching paper my longbow for hunting. As I have also said before there is just as much racism in aboriginal communities as non aboriginal. The only difference is an aboriginal person will say it to your face. The nons whisper in the shadows.

That is because indians have the "right" to say it and if a white person says anything, they all cry "racism" Thats the reason for that.

Your last sentence is most correct. I've experienceed it many times in my life.

You have no premises what so ever prior to the CWD program. Your comment is most invalid and moot........rumor and hearsay. Go study pre-confederation history and maybe you will understand........however don't only think with your head.

That is funny. I have seen "white people" do these thing you describe. Never once a native. I follow the laws to the letter. Do you?

Yes I do follow the laws. The laws that the rest of us have to follow.
I will admit though, that I've had white people tell me that they are going to start taking moose too, and I can understand why.
When you see one segment of the population given rights that they use to rape the resources with, it's hard to stomach.
"Never once a native", I can't believe that things are that different out there than they are here. I've had natives brag to my face about what they do.

What exactly does "pre-confederation history" have to do with this now? Other than to push your treaty ideas?

Heard of it happening but I have not seen it with my own eyes. People who are braging about that sort of thing are usually full of sh_t. Have been hunting with a friend (who is no longer a friend) that shot a goose out of season just to see it go splat. That is the sort of thing that makes me sick. Needles to say conservation was not to happy to hear about this. Niether was the ex friend when conservation took away his guns.

What about the non-aboriginals who purchased and filled their multiple tags and gave the animals away? What about the thousands of Americans who hunt in Canada where only a small percentage retuned home with their meat. There is a multitued of non-aboriginal hunters who "do not" eat what they had harvested. Unfortuately greed/gluttening.

That's what I stated in my post if you read it a bit more closely i've said greed amongst both aboriginal and non aboriginal hunters. Just like I don't believe it is necessary for people to pack 50 lbs. of fillets in their freezer only to watch them freezer burn, this can also be applied to the fisherman that goes out everyday and brings home fish only to throw it in the bottom of the freezer. As for American hunters we can blame that one on our governments who actively promote "trophy" hunting for the sake of the almighty tourist dollars. I'm not trying to make this an I'm good you're bad post, just pointing out that conservation is going out the door and game hunting regs are becoming useless as people are hunting year round with modern equipment. Our game populations don't stand a chance under this kind of pressure and if we as shooters and hunters and fishermen don't start talking about it then everything will go to hell in a handbasket pretty quickly and no one will be able to hunt or fish because there won't be anything left. I don't get that people don't get that!

So you are telling me that I dont know what happened on my familys farmland prior to CWD seasons ?

Are you telling me that the trophy mule deer in Saskatchewan have been decimated on your families farm and the rest of the province from aboriginals?
If so, please do tell me, and with premises.

He was not a hunter.......just a criminal, and it took a lot of guts on your part to do something about it!

Show me where i said decimated and show me where i was talking about the rest of the province. I was talking about a certain group of indians that came into this area that were exercising their "hunting rights" I know you think you know everything but you can quit with filling in with things i never said

I agree with most of what you stated on the noted above, however not quite convinced that wildlife (Big Game) suffers so much from hunters, let alone aborginals. I personally believe through experience that most wildlife die primarily by other means other than hunting (ie: old age, winter kill, natural predators, road kill, etc). To break it down between aboriginals and non aboriginals, I believe the later kills 100 fold more big game animals. When I'm out in the field during hunting and non hunting seasons I have rarely witnessed seeing an aboriginal hunting. Now during those times I've encountered many, if not all, non-aboriginal hunting big game "AND" hunting illegally. We are our own worst enemy, don't pin it on both when "primaily" there is one to blame.

Agree...I see it all the time...But who gets the blame when the fishing starts to get poor as a result????

I have seen much of the same when I'm out in the bush. Both in and out of season. I'm not sure about other provinces, but in Manitoba yes.

In Manitoba there are real yote and wolf over population. Unfortunately conservation will not put a bounty on them. This year the game was sparse to say the least. Yotes everywhere though.

I don't know what area you are in, but in the Southwest its municipalities that enforce bounties, not conservation.

Plenty of non-abs don't even bother getting out of the truck around here. Some of them even younger than I am, but I suppose this is all greatly approved since they purchased a license.

I know of a few lodges that each hold up to 20 non-abs, most of the hunters aren't residents of MB, but use the address of the lodge and save themselves a few bucks.
You don't have to be Metis or Native to screw conservation attempts, whether its taking too much, or just not giving what you're supposed to.
