I checked to see if this has been asked before and apologize if it has been covered. I recently installed a new Receiver Mount scope to my Chinese SKS that replaces the original receiver Cover,I had to do a certain amount of filing in order to fit it to the Rifle which from what I have read is normal....however when I first installed it I could not open the Bolt and I had to file more off to fit properly and to be able to open and close the Bolt easily and now it seems to fit nice and tight....Should I still have it checked over by a Gun Smith to make sure all is good before going to the Range?
Thanks

I dont know what a gunsmith could tell you. If its not obstructing the bolt then its doing its job. It will more than likely not hold zero which Im sure youve read on here. Let us know how it goes.

Yeah I have read they may not hold a zero but it is only for plinking at the Range so I thought I would try it and if it doesn't work I won't be out a lot of money and may end up going with a Choate Mount, Will give a Range report though.. I hope it works.

I had one of these, had to file it to fit like the instruction says.
Upon install, it rubbed just like yours on the bolt carrier. Not much, but enough that it would lightly scratch the carrier.
I removed it and filed the inside of the cover, so that it didn't rub.
No need for a gunsmith, it the action is smooth and they are not in contact you will be fine.

I had to do the same, the inside of the new Cover was very sharp so I smoothed out all the edges..I did however make a really stupid mistake when I first tried to fit it to the Rifle I thought the problem was the hole where take down latch Pin goes through and I filed inside the new Cover hole then when that didn't seem to get me anywhere I read the instructions..... and then realized I should have filed the front ends of the Cover which i did.....it seems to fit good and tight but I am a little worried that where I filed inside the hole that the take down pin goes through I may have done harm.

I have yet to find anybody that has been able to get the cover mount to hold zero. I tried as a challenge just to see if I could make it work. Made a gas regulator and hand crafted a receiver buffer to reduce shock and might as well have thrown rocks.
All that being said, in answer to your question, I bought a cheapo scope and mount set and had to throw away the cover/mount. I did the same as yours. Very poorly made. I put out the extra cash and bought a better mount. The bolt worked nicely but no zero.

DON'T waste any more money.

I will likely end up going with the Choate Mount....I would love to Mount a Scope on my SKS but I was hoping to avoid any permanent Modifications.
