Never EVER do that !
Always make sure you have a choke tube installed and make sure it is lubed and secure!

my question is why is there a need to shoot it with out a choke but my answer is this if the fullest bore dia. is required i suggest cylinder bore choke if you dont got one get one

What do they teach in the firearms course today???? None of this covered?? Been too long for me to remember when i took it.

Nope it is still part of the course as suspected Section 3.4 Shotgun Barrels of the Canadian Firearms Safety Course -2008 non restricted.

take it easy. thats why i said it was a fast question. i got my answer the first responce. no wonder so many young people are intimidated to join the sport when you have abunch of know it alls who dont wanna even help you out they just wanna poke fun.

as i said before i never had a choke system in a shotgun before. all mine came with is a tactical choke. thats why i put my question here.

should we not ask questions anymore?. i was seeking help not criticism.
but thank you to the people who helped with the answer.

I apologize if you have been offended. It is always nice to see new members and young people getting into the shooting sports. If you have questions, fire away.

Has nothing to do with know it alls or intimidation. Has to do with such a basic question how could it be missed in the Firearms training. If it was did you take the time to read the manual for you gun and if you don't have one I suggest you get one. Guns are nothing to screw with no pun intended and the boys answered your question as nicely as they could considering how basic it was to someone that has guns don't care what type they are. To me like asking if I can drive my truck with no rims and tires on it but I have a drivers licence. That is why you got some of the feedback you did. Yes indeed it is always nice to see new members and young people getting into the shooting sports however we assume they have been properly trained prior to owning a firearm also. take care

 I didn't know there was such a thing as a "tactical" choke (not directed at you OP)
Not common around our hunting guns for sure but they do make them normally to be used primarily in Law Enforcement apparently better performance with buckshot , etc.
I have seen some brownells supplied.

To the original poster: I see you got your answer. Don't be put off by some of the answers you get to questions. Some of us come across as a bit crusty, and, sadly , some of us are just that. However, this is YOUR site, too, so ask away.

Much is made about, "Don't they teach that in the safety courses?", etc. No, not likely they do. I have never used a shotgun with adjustable or interchangeable chokes, and I was around when the Chinese were still experimenting with gunpowder (or whoever invented the stuff!). I might well have asked that question when I was new to such things.

Have fun!! :)

Nope just someone with 1/2 a century of using firearms and concerned that this was not being covered today when new shooters complete the course. However it is under section 3.4 and in detail from a current instructor I asked so you must have missed it.
Sorry my friend if I am not as touchy and feely as others but have seen all too many times what can happen when individuals are not trained properly in the safe operation of firearms

You need to get an "open choke" or "open cylinder" and screw it in to protect the threads. Personally, I think all the effective range is gone without a choke, but each to their own.
