Recommended reading for a beginner?

I don't want to be "that guy" that just starts asking tons of stupid basic questions on reloading and not take the time to read and learn. I don't expect others to do my work for me.

With that in mind, can any of you recommend a few good books that I can track down to read and get myself started? Online info would also be great but I would prefer something I can read on break at work, in the tub, etc.

I'll glady take any other advice you are willing to offer.

That's what I have read, several times. Its written well, and is easy to read. Also, the fact that the author lost both his hands in a reloading accident, he REALLY stresses the safety side of it. Which is always good IMHO.

I also got the Shooter's Bible Guide to Rifle Ballistics at the same time to complement my reloading book. It's not really about reloading but helps to get you to grasp WHY you are reloading. Again though, just my opinion.
 
Lee 2nd, Lyman 49th, Speer 14. Lee manual is worth reading just to hear Richards opinions lol.

Thirded. been reloading for years now and i still think its a good read.

I concur, the ABC's is a great place to start.
 
Basic Handloading by George Nonte. Though out of print, it can be found on amazon.com at at used booksellers. Covers both metallic and shotshell reloading in a simple, thorough manner. A must read for the reloading newbie, IMHO.

what firearms are you planning of reloading for?
 
Here's another vote for the "Modern Reloading Second Edition" by Richard Lee and the Lyman 49th Edition.

There's tons of information on the internet to help a guy learn about reloading. But be cautious about getting your load data online - that is at your own risk unless you get it from a manufacturer's website. Which is why we all recommend various manuals for that.

Well, my RPAL is on the way to me. It's my understanding that pistol ammo is the easiest to reload. I'll likely start with that (9mm is what is likely) and also 12g shotgun slugs... but once I get the knack of it....

Posts like this is the reason I'm scared to reload. LoL. I been thinking of reloading since I got my RPAL (only a few months now), my next expense will be reloading equipment. But I shart myself every time I see/hear stuff like that.

I`ve seen some good reloading demos on you tube, plus get the ABC`s of reloading. I have the Lee book as well but only bought it for some info on new cartridges, didn`t have some new cartridges in it and with the way they are pushing new rounds out the books can`t keep up. I get load data from the powder manufacture`s web sites. If you have some used book stores near you check them out, i have found some good books at gunshows as well, usually save a good amount to get more books.
 
ABC's of reloading as a starting point, then pick up Lyman's reloading manual; there is an incredible amount of reloading data in it, it's well laid out and should serve you well.
 
I have always thought that the Hornady Manual had the best overview of the processes. Regardless, after reading the (any) manual, find an experienced handloader to talk to.
 
Would someone like to share the story of how the author of that book lost both his hands and does he still shoot/reload???
