What the....? No thread on the big Wolverine surplus sale?

Damn you, proud new K98k owner. This stupid job is really getting in the way of buying guns. I may have to choose one or the other, and I ain't to keen on my job

Type 38 Arisaka was the backbone of the Imperial Japanese Army through at least three wars: wonderful historical pieces.

They are light-recoiling, easy to feed, have barrels that last MUCH better than folks would think possible..... and some of them are just WICKED accurate. And there are NO issues with castings, hard steel, cast-iron parts, dodgy hardening, all that kind of nasty thing. The Gopher used a Type 38; that's good enough for me.

.........................................

Was just out there with a friend. He picked up a little Svedish Karabiner that cleaned up REAL nice, so I gave him this old bayonet that I had lying around..... and the wood actually matched. Nice way to start a day....

I picked up the 98K and the Portuguese K98.

It was a flyer on the basis of a brief description and a grainy picture, but my assumption (correct or not, time will tell) is that if they were priced on the higher end of the market by the good people at Wolverine than it is because the (unknown to me) details and condition of the rifles warranted it.

If it turns out I overpaid, so be it.

If that was the $850 for a matching bcd K98 then you did not overpay based on the description. If unpeened RC's are hitting the $600 mark then the extra $250 for a matching bolt is pennies.

What year is the rifle?

Good score

nice snag o nthe MAS49. It was the only gun that was not pre-sold that piqued my interest :(

I had hoped to see that Port 98 and Nambu pistol with reasonalb prices, but museums must have grabbed them :(

Some of the French rifles are interesting - that 1886 Lebel would be sold if I had not just bought one 2 weeks ago after looking for TEN YEARS!!!

Otherwise though, I found the bulk of the stuff priced at premuim retail prices - almost Colelctor's Source bad. Clearly they aren't going to clear all their space quickly - just my opinion.

Thanks, I thought that price was pretty good too based on the description. I'm not sure about the year and the listing is now deleted. I'll know when I get it in hand, and I'll post some photos here to share.

The Port Mauser was the real leap of faith at $1600 (not $1800 as per a prior post) but according to the description even the bayonet matched so it could be a pretty nice piece too.

Given the nature of the sale I didn't have a lot of time to analyze and deliberate or they would have been gone, so I just pulled the trigger  and hoped for the best.

Well, I missed the Nazi Browning Hi-Power but I did buy a Webley MkIV in .38 S&W. It's a basic for the WWII collection and at $295 it doesn't break the bank.

I think the guns will be sold mostly out of buyer hysteria. No way I would pay those prices based on poor descriptions and shotty photos coupled with the fear of someone else frantically trying to rid themselves of hard earned or government subsidized money.

Yep that MAS 49 would have been a great acquisition i tried for but no success:(. I will see what will remain of the lot in a while. The Rasheed caught my eyes too but too pricey, i wonder if was sold?
