Well like I said I owned 3 new Colt AR15 SP1's in the late 70's early 80's & they were the same color out of the box.
Worked part time @ a gun shop back then. Only two tone ones I remember were Colt AR lowers with M16 uppers & that required an offset receiver pin.
 
Nice vintage AR! Let us know how it shoots when you take it to the range. Colt SP1's did not come with a forward assist. In the mid 1980's Colt sold HBar SP1's that had the tear drop forward assists. They put the new 1:7 HBar barrels on left over upper assembly parts.

I won't argue that two-tone ARs aren't legit factory items, but I have to fix this garble before someone assumes some of it is correct.


the early SP1s with the greyer shaded uppers were leftover uppers from the USAF M16 contract .. they were the first branch of the military to adopt the AR15 type rifle, the USAF M16 had no forward assist or shell deflector and were select fire like every other branch's AR-15s. The Air Force did not adopt the forward assist until at least the mid- 80's, after SP1 production was stopped, and therefore the appearance of the slab-side receivers on SP1's has no relation to the decisions of the Air Force.

Whew. Now I feel better.
 
Oh man that thing is soooo sweet!!! Get a Norinco .45 Govt to go with it. Loose tolerance and forged frame, just like the original. The ultimate Old-school Combo.
