Why don't you compete?

I am pretty sure these guys are not ORA. I do not know of any competitors from the T-Bay area that compete at the DCRA CFRC.
I have seen guys shooting in shorts and sandals or even barefoot. Tell them to stick their dress code because there isn't one.
20 years ago F Class was just recognized as a class and maybe only 2-3 guys were shooting it at the provincial level.

ATR - it sounds like from your account you were the victim 20 years ago of serious douch-baggery. That is the douch-bags fault at the time but if you are still holding on to it after 20 years.......

Anyway, I read in another post of yours (Service Forum I think) that you now participating in 3 gun, Service Rifle and CQB. Please correct me if I am wrong on this.

However, if I'm right, you are in fact competing and I assume having fun. That is a good thing.

I curious as to where you are participating in these events up on the "big half of the map". Always good to know what is being offered and where.

Cheers

I think I may know the gentleman in which you speak of. Trust me he is really a pussy cat, once you get to know him. Once he has given his range safety briefing there will be no doubt in anyone's mind about who is in charge of the range.
Keep in mind that Sr. NCO's or former Sr. NCO's are not known for their tact. They are however known for getting the job done right. Safety is paramount and in the best interest of non-military users continued use of DND ranges.

I still remember the first time I heard that range safety briefing- I was scared to fart on the range! :eek:Then I got to know him.:)

If it's the guy I am thinking of as well........It only took him 7 years to talk to me. Now him and I can start a converation no problem.:pirate:

Yup I can talk to him as well now . But he doesn`t hold back at times when the person truely doesn`t know what they have said wrong . But I do know of some who will not shoot again up there because of him .

If stuff like this happens a lot, someone should kindly mention that he's not in the army terrorizing his subordinates anymore.

Us civvies can't handle being looked at angrily, let alone being spoken to like that...;)

Now then...I'm off to flower arranging class:D

The ORA has been around for 144 years. Some Provincial Rifle Associations are even older than that. We use DND ranges and to be quite honest in some cases the DND does not care one way or another if we use the ranges. It would only take one accident for the DND to give any PRA the boot from their ranges. I think 144 years of safe range conduct speaks for it self.

The Range Officer signs for the range and it is his responsibility to make sure everything is done in a safe manner IAW all base and range standing orders. It isn't just a matter of showing up and bossing people around.

Add in a bunch of new shooters the RO has never seen before. And some people that do not know how a DND range works, you can see why the RO may have his panties in a twist.

Sure, you may get some unwanted personal attention from the RO. You might even get an angry stare. You will however be aware of who is the MFWICH:p

Really, if a dirty look or a raised voice makes you wet yourself, look into some self esteem classes. Or maybe zuperman could direct you to the flower arranging classes:D

You guys are panty wetters!! I have to try and not smile when he is on a role
I have dealt with crustier old bastids and love every moment of it and like to stir the #### even more just by asking trigger questions or comments:evil: I think he is a good RO no issues what so ever very happy with how he runs things:D

Never really thought about competing until I read through this thread, and have now gone looking for info on where/when to shoot within a few hours drive.

I have no ego so am not too concerned about the actual competition aspect, but I would imagine there is no end to the amount of excellent education that I could receive from attending. Being self taught is rewarding, but markedly improving is even more so. :)

Since this thread has been started, I have had 5 new shooters contact me who are interested in getting started shooting longer range. Looks like my club might just get 2 new TR shooters, 2 new F Class shooters and one TR/Vintage rifle shooter this year. Not all of them are interested in full out competetion, but with a little practice you never know.

i really want to get competing this year.im in alberta so if anyone from here can help me/point me in right direction it will be appreciated

Ya missed two one mile shoots in Peace River area. There's another coming up in September, hope I don't have to drag you to it! Was looking forward to meeting you.
