New Ranger Rifle

I know for a fact that summer 2009 at least one reservist had a C7 and BHP in his basement.

And if he did, he would be spending some significant time in Edmonton. So would the RQ, and a number of others as it is completely against regulations. So lets not suggest that somehow this is current practice or legal. It is not.

Not impossible, if the C-7 was actually a AR-15 dressed up to look the part and you can buy Inglis BHP's.

I was allowed to take a FN home so I could take part in a match with it. Back in the early 80's.

Sorry, it would be impossible as you noted, it is not a C7 but in fact an AR-15. No one is authorized to take their service rifle and pistol home.

Not the 80s anymore.

They wouldn't even let anyone in the unit leave until every weapon was turned in and accounted for when I was in (97-03 2 CMBG Hq&Sigs), doubt it would have got less restrictive since then.

In no way am I saying it is currently permitted by CF policy.

I appreciate that. That being said, even way back in 2009, if someone took their service rifle home, all involved would go to jail. Nothing has changed since that date or in fact the last 20 years. No service member is allowed to take his rifle and pistol home, nor transport in their personally owned vehicle. The hammer would hit so hard it would not be funny.

Wow , good information to know. That thing with the two FN' s in the back of the Pinto and the hooker was just part of the onset of Oldtimers.
And no I never took issued 30 rd mags home either.
Fortunately I don't have to understand all of the present day policies.

Being able to fly across the country with a rifle but having to ship mags by courier as they are "Prohib" was pretty funny as well.

What unit do you belong to? Our guys took their mags with them in the gun case with no issues. I don't recall any regulations that require your mags to travel separate from you.

I know, it was just someone forcing people to do what they think is right. Kind of like the request I had come across my desk a couple weeks ago to manf trigger locks for C7s, C8s, MP5s and Sigs so a unit that will remain nameless could take their weapons to the range without violating laws.

It is amazing that something every one needs is not in the supply system.

I almost got some extra work pinning mags and building individual locking cases before I kicked the originator (and his RCMP flyer) out of my office.

Oh I wish they would come to my office with problems like that :D
