Shorten PAL Approval Times

I called once last Monday, then she told me to call back tomorrow or the next day so I did.

I'm not desperate, i'm just following their directions. Unfortunately its just a classic example of a bureaucratic organisation seeing how "call back tomorrow" actually means don't call back ever.

I'm going to forget about this, honestly waiting this long isn't even worth acquiring a firearm. Canadians obviously aren't mean to own guns.

I believe that the current regulations were at least partly intended to make the process of getting firearms so onerous that people would be discouraged and consequently not bother with it. For some it is not the time involved, but all of the cost. In either case the result is the same. Don't give up so easily. Persevere and get your guns; it is worth the wait. There are many in history who only wished they could have guns. You don't have to wish, but only be patient.

That rifle hanging on the wall of the working-class flat or labourer's cottage is the symbol of democracy. It is our job to see that it stays there.

Hey I'm as anxious as you to get my RPAL but honestly just relax, man. Have a drink or smoke or something, find a hot chick. Chill with your buddies, see a movie. You're already much farther along the process than I so think of it that way, not much longer to wait

I've mailed rebate applications for hundreds of dollars to EUROPE and had them processed and returned to me faster than this. Obviously this is something much different, and they have to take their time in reviewing each application and check peoples backgrounds, but 75% of it is just bureaucracy.

as I said, i've already spent my money I was saving for my first gun on something else, when it happens, it happens i guess. I'm not holding my breath anymore. The only reason I came in this thread in the first place was because my good friend had his application take 4+ months to process, I was trying to avoid that.

In the states, our cousins to the south, they(most states) walk in to a gun store, choose a gun, give the clerk a photo id, the store calls the FBI, they run a background check and if he's good, buy the gun. 1/2 hour or so is all it takes. That is probably just as safe as all the crap we go through and very efficient.

In a nutshell, we should be the same way. We are not criminals. If you are a criminal you'll just buy your gun for a discount in the backalley.

Hey, it's not your fault. This system was designed by our retarded uncles in the old liberal party.

It's put together this way to make you feel frustrated, mad and like a child begging to mom for more cookies. Eventually we all get used to the abuse and some on this site are so conditioned they'll even start believing it's ok.
We all have to through with it, no choice, but is doesn't mean we can't join a group and try to change it. What you'll go through as a gun owner can be classified as abuse.

Abuse is not ok anytime!

If you have your PAL number, can you go to a gun store and shop or do you need the actual piece of plastic?

Also I phones today and they said they hadn't recieved my application yet, sent it over 2 weeks ago and I get the feeling it is there. So hopefully it is there and the person I talked to couldn't find it.

Haha.. good question. Another thread dealt with this. You need the card unless the owner of the gunshop knows you and is willing to call the local CFO to confirm you have your license.

My card was issued and I'm now waiting 2 weeks + for it to be mailed.

I called the CFO and told them I was applying for a job at a gun store and asked them if they could fax the gun store to confirm my pal license was on the slow train to my house. No way, they don't have to be nice, they are government after all, sorry can't help you....bam the door closes.

Yikes, I do love this system, I got my daily dose of abuse and went on my merry way. f:P:

Why? It hasnt even been a month yet? In al reality it could be 2-3 months. Its not an overnight process. The longer you wait, the more money you can save to feed your habit...:dancingbanana:

^^ This.

The 28 day wait was Liberal BS. The RCMP background check is an antiquated system, whereas FBI has moved on to the computer age. This process is entirely to give the appearance to non-shooters (not anti's, just everyone else) that 'Canada's different and not just anybody can own a gun'. Makes people feel safer.

Get your license, and keep it valid. It's much harder to get a right BACK, versus keeping it in the first place.

Yeah, perception is everything and the 28 day waiting period is smoke and mirrors. I agree with you on get the license.

Yes, I try to advocate and bring new people to shoot with me.

I'm also trying to get involved as much as possible to change gun laws for the better. Participating on the forums is a must.

2-3 months is absolutely ridiculous. If I knew it would take that long I would have never pursued my PAL in the first place. But since I've already invested 250 in the course and another 200 on a range membership I guess i'll just sit and wait patiently.

No offense but this attitude is why they have the stupid wait times. To discourage people from wanting to pursue this sport

PAL app going in

Wish me luck gentlemen, I sending in my NRPAL application in tomorrow. I was very surprised how difficult it was to get my references, 2 of my neighbours, (who I've known for years) wouldn't let me list them as references. They were both afraid I'd be using it to shoot Bambi. I only want to get a .22 FGS, well maybe a 12g late. Please note, they`re first in line for wild duck breast at another neighbours BBQ, usually held mid duck season. Go figure.

Good luck! Hope it goes through quickly and without any hiccups. My RPAL course isn't till end of April. Had a similar reaction from some other friends that I mentioned it to. They got all anti-gun on me despite my best efforts to explain that the LGR did nothing to reduce crime. Fortunately my two references are LEOs. Figured that they should pretty credible enough.

Thank You!

Must be an automated system that updates status because as of 12:00am, Feb. 28, 2012:

the "Current Status" went from "Your application has completed initial processing..."

to:

"Your application has been processed and your license has been issued. If you have not received your license within 2 weeks please contact the Canada Firearms Centre Toll Free number. (1-800 731-4000)"

For the record:

"Application Received on: 2012/01/31"

Exactly 28 days.

I'd just like to thank the Academy....
