Doing my first "build"

... and it's not even for me. I introduced a friend to shooting last weekend and he gave me a budget of $700ish to get him set up with a .22 of his own. His only constraints were .22, tacticool and didn't want something off the shelf (so SR-22 was out ). So, first thing I did was a bit of research and then went to SFRC's site.

Here's the plan
Ruger 10/22 carbine
NEA 9" threaded bull barrel
Tapco intrafuse stock (for bull barrel)
two butler creek steel lips 25 round mags
tasco red dot (he liked mine on my .22)

Still need to add a fore grip, and maybe a cheap flashlight for the tacticool look. Also, is there anywhere to get a fake suppressor just for giggles.

That barrel is CRAPPOLA... Bought one and sent it back... very poor quality... spend the extra $50 and get a Dlask.

The barrel is listed as a 9" barrel... the one I received was 7 3/4" from the base of the tenon to the end of the threads... the finish was horrible, felt like an unfinished sandblast... the tenon was sloppy in the receiver... a receiver that received three other barrels without play. This was for my daughters "Pinky" build and I was really unhappy with the product... sent it back and ordered a Dlask 8" bull... I have many Dlask products including barrels... I really am impressed by the fit/finish/performance... but I got "sucked-in" by the cheaper product... now I know why it was cheaper. Hope you have better luck.

When and where did you buy it from??? Did you speak with one of us about this?

Our barrels are Milspec Parkerized, threaded and 9". They should actually be very tight to install and require lube to seat. They should never be "sloppy" in the receiver. Somethings not right here.

I ended up changing it to a 12" barrel (still NEA) I'm picking it up this weekend. I'll post back and put up some pictures of it.

I just pulled apart my 10/22. It has our 9" barrel on it. The only difference between this one and the one we sell is this one is almost a year old, has a few thousand rounds through it and has been painted over a few times.

.. But it didn't shrink or grow.

Hey Dave, where does the 9" bbl end up lengthwise with carbine length forend in an NEA-22? I'm trying to decide on BBL length so I can order all the parts together.

Yup, I'm looking to go with Magpul MOE carbine length forend on an NEA-22 chassis. I'll probly have the bbl turned to .750" so I can throw a lo pro gas block on there for looks. I'm going for a 10.5" AR look but have no idea where the end of the BBL will end up with this setup. For reference:

I got the barrel but ran into a bit of an issue. Length is good, finish/looks good, but the inside of the barrel is parkarized and causing the dummy round/fired casing to get stuck. I have a pm into NEA and wondering if it's just a matter of plugs falling out during the finishing process.

you can find one from armco guns in bc they have a couple available

Is it causing feeding/extraction issues with live rounds? The other reviews I can find, except hoytcannon's, all report reliability. It looks like the 9" will be too short for my plans so I'll be going with a Dlask barrel. Joe says they can finish a .750" bbl at any length and even run a sporter reamer thru it so I dont have to burn my 7000+ rds of Blazer in the backyard

Does it stick when fired, or just with a dummy round?

The .22 barrels have a match chamber, and rounds will stick if cycled manually or not fired.

The barrels themselves after parking are oiled then when dried/inspected the chambers are hand chased with a reamer to make sure they're clear of oil/debris/etc. Even if a plug did come out it's unlikely there would be any park in there. If there is, then there's an issue, because they definitely shouldn't be. That's a warranty issue for sure.

Once we get back into the country we can arrange for youy to send your 1022 to us and we'll inspect it and the barrel. If there's an issue we'll fix it or replace it here and send it back in good order.

I'll have an answer in an hour or so (it's at the gunsmiths right now, he wanted to test fire it after installing the barrel). It would not extract dummy rounds at all until the gunsmith worked on it quite a bit.

I just want to clarify this is not a "Bash" on NEA thread, they have extremely quick to reply and offer to help. I'll post up the results tonight and maybe some video this week.

Update: there is/was some parkerizing in the chamber. The gunsmith was able to clean it up and smooth it out enough that it can eject no problem (so far). A little disappointed that it took going to a gunsmith to get a brand new barrel working but it's hopefully good to go now.

Well NEAs response to parkerizing in the chamber was "just go shoot it". After thr gunsmith worked on it I put a few mags through it with no issues so far. Still a little disappointed it took a gunsmith (and more $$$) to fix a brand new barrel.
