Hi,

Just wondering what the popular types people are using in the limited division and the number of matches in Ontario there are for 3 gun

Thanks

All equipment is personal preference and based on budget.

Pump shotguns rule in Canada because of capacity and which model you use depends on what you can shoot best.
I use a Benelli supernova and feel it is superior to Rem/Mossberg for a number of reasons.
End of the day, its what you can hit the targets with best and reload the fastest.

Rifle, AR platform seems to rule.
Again, in Canada the LAR 10 round mags seem to dictate which platform will rule.
Anything that takes these mags that you can shoot well will be best for you.

Key thing in limited as far as rifle goes, is the ability to get a long sight radius so you can be a little more accurate long distance.
Regardless of barrel length (I like 20") you want your front sight as far forward as you can get it. Mine sits butted up to my compensator.

If you are in southern ontario, and looking for a complete rundown on equipment and techniques, you might want to look into the Multigun Intro course that 7.62mm is holding.

I'd go Mossberg 590 20" maybe with a +1 and Norc M4 14.5" if your budget minded and plan to shoot in Canada only. If your budget is higher than Benelli M2 for a semi shotgun is what a lot of people recommend and a 16" North American made AR that way both can be taken into the US.

Thanks!

any aditional on the AR15 would help barrel length, popular manufactures, caliber etc and
any reason why a CZ858 would not work?

Thanks Guys,

Why the pump action over the semi....seems to me the semi would be a better choice

'Depends on how the divisions are set out...

Pumps and semi's dont neccessarily compete against eachother so...
Coose a Div and then gear or... Look at whar gear you have and pick a div.:)

I'm left handed so the Mossberg 590A1 with speedfeed works the best for me. The safety is much better placed for my affliction. Also a Stag Arms Model 1 L (left handed) and the M&P 9mm for it's Ambi capabilities as well. Would like to try the CZ 85 Combat out to see how it handles and the new Wather PPQ Navy when it comes in.

590 and ar15.

AR15 is pretty much the choice as far as rifles go, usual shotguns are pumps either Mossberg or Remington. Guys in open usually go with semi shotguns and speedloaders.

Any gun will "work"...

Of course how well it'll fit has to do with what kind of match you're shootin' and how it's set up... There's no one perfect set up for every possible scenario, but with the 858/SKS I see a couple of drawbacks.

1. These are... (and I'm gonna ge flamed by the red rifle fan-boys I know) military grade firearms. Sure they go bang every time, but I'm not convinced that any of these rifles are near as accurate or shootable as the most basic AR trype rifle. Of course here in Ontario that probably isn't a big deal 'cause we're not shooting beyond 100yards most of the time anyway. They have military type sights and from what I've seen most guys shoot military ammo outta these guns... Which leads to the next drawback...

2. Most SKS/858 shooters I've seen feed their guns "surplus" military 7.62x39.
Most likely 'cause it's cheap... Problem is, there are cases where such ammo isn't allowed... It's the MD's right to ban steel core ammo for the sake of steel targets/backstops... So, you may find that you're gonna have to spring for some costly commercial 7.62x39 anyway.
Then keep it straight... Mix up your rounds and punch a hole through a target or damage a backstop... Ooops.

3. The whole 5 round mag debacle... 'Sorry, but as MD I'm not going to limit everyone to 5 rounds because one or two guys are shooting 858's with 5 round mags or SKS's with 5 round strippers. The shooters solution to this is... 'Get awesome with your reloads :D

Of course.. There's always the exception. 'Seen it a few times where a dark horse shows up with what most would consider "less than idea" gear and said "dark horse" whips everyone butt:D

It's awsome to see, but rare.

All the above BS aside... If what you have is an SKS/858 and wanna shoot.. As long as you're safe... GO FOR IT.

You'll never really know what works for you by just sitting' on the couch flippin' through the LaRue catalog.

I think you'll see a lot more CZ rifles competing in 3-gun, now that they can be adapted for 10-round pistol magazines.

But... Here's the thing... I don't have the exact numbers, but...
So... You buy a 858 'cause it's less expensive then say and AR.
Then you go and spend $ on converting it so it'll accept higher cap. mags
What you still have is a mil grade rifle with mil grade sights shootin' mil grade ammo.. Albeit while holding 10 rounds in the mag.
I'd just save up and get something else.

Or.. Just pay attention to match divisions... For Team Hoser 3-Gun your 5 shot com-bloc rifle is GTG AS IS for "Tac-30" div.
You're only up against guys with the same type of rifle.
