Hi guys,

Just thought I'd share my new (to me) Browning Semi-Auto 22. It is my first semi-auto firearm, my first rifle and my first 22.

After stripping the terrible varnish finish it had, I gave it a couple of coats of tung oil. There was so much sand and dirt in the receiver, combined with copious amounts of old oil & grease, the action would barely move when I first got it. I ended up spending about an hour carefully scraping gritty paste off every surface with a dental pick! A dab of white paint on the front sight and it was off to the range. It is a blast to shoot, but is IMHO really crying out for some better sights. I really admire the simple yet effective takedown design, and I look forward to walking the trails with it on hiking trips looking for squirrels and grouse!

Does anyone know a Canadian retailer who carries the Browning barrel scope mount shown below? I think a 4X scope would suit this rifle very well (and my poor eyes).

Thanks for looking,

Nice gun. You can get the browning mount from Ellwood Epps, just think twice about putting a scope on that gun. With the reciever being so small a scope on top of it looks kinda strange, but thats just my opinion with my gun.

I had one of those a few years back.
Great action.
I regret selling it for sure.
The bolt assembly will come out of there fairly easy.
Do some Google search.
I have misplaced the info in my head, aka forgot.
Decent wood on yours.
Good shooters too.
Cheers.

I didn't see that he asked how to get the bolt out. Did he?

In any case, for them not in the know, the trigger guard slides forward, after the barrel has been removed, then pivots away from the action. Let the trigger guard slide forward on the recoil spring, and lift it free.

Install is as easy. Drop the assembly into the receiver, then slide the trigger guard forward, align the keys with the notches, and allow it to slide back in place. Badda boom, badda bing!

Cheers

He mentioned the time he spent cleaning this little sweetie.
I had one a bunch of years ago that I bought that was filthy.
I took it all apart and cleaned it up.
I also discovered how to tear it down to get it nicely cleaned up
and oiled.
Are you the new sherriff in town? :D

I bought one of the old FN versions and it was so gunked up inside the reciever that it looked like the bottom of an old oil pan. I cleaned it up, replaced a couple of small parts and now its one of my favorite rifles to shoot. I liked it so much that I went out and bought a new one and I'm saving the old one for my daughter to learn to shoot on.

Wholesale sports has the SA-22 scope mount as well as the proper rings. I put a Nikon rimfire 4X scope (1 inch tube) on mine and it looks very good. After sighting in the scope it will hold groups less than 1 inch at 100 meters (from a bench). I want to try rimfire silhouette shooting at my range, maybe will not keep up with the bolt action rimfire guns most folks use but will give it a try. Really a sweet package.
