So I got me a couple of Chinese SKS' so i decided to keep one completely stock and then pimp out the other one.

I put
ATI 6 position folding stock
bipod
tapco 30/5 mag
and new receiver with scope mounts
still need to find a scope

the folding action is very sloppy on this stock. Lots of play when closed if i could do again i would go for fixed. But I will try to do some tweaking and see if I can make it better

Well nothing is ruined, I saved all original parts so i can always bring it back to original, are there are good scope mounts you can get for the sks, i thought about tapping and mounting a rail but then i wont be able to use brass sights anymore.

If you can undo it, no foul. If you use a reciever cover mount, file it so it barely fits on, and it will be acceptable for 100m or so use, on little or no magnification. Anything beyond that is unreasonable for a device coming off and on for cleanings. I would suggest a red dot type sight, that you zero to the iron sights, once you are happy with their accuracy. Stay away from anything past 4x!

You did a great job making "YOUR" rifle the way you like it. Does not matter if it's a Russian or Chinese SKS. They are a dime a dozen and will be that way for a long time yet. Don't let the "Hector the Collector" putz's tell you that your are destoying history. If you do manage to mess one up there will be another one to fill it's shoes.

ya I don't have much $$ tied up in this one, my 270 is my next project going to take off the crappy synthetic stock and put a nice wood one with thumb hole on.

Yes, a receiver scope mount really won't hold zero. I tried one on a '52 that I had a Tapco stock on (for extra length of pull - I sold that one, kept the as-issued SKS) and could never get the scope & mount to return to zero after cleaning. The intent was to use this SKS as a short-range brush rifle for hunting season, but to still have the ability to take a deer at about 200 yds. Failed miserably because the receiver mount just wouldn't hold zero, and I had filed the mount to a VERY tight fit.

I agree that the sid-folding is a bit of a novelty on these, doesn't serve much purpose and is pretty wobbly when folded. Seems to lock open alright though.

Additionally, I wish the adjustable cheek rest adjusted another half inch or so.

I had a hell of a time with the pin holding the handguard in though, buggered a bunch of stuff on my chinese sks, that wood is in the trash.

Mine with the BCtactical scout mount and burris fastfireII, hopefully this combo works well.
And the gun still fires...
