$2,132 for a Norinco CQ-A

The NEA's will arrive soon - we are the NEA distributor. This prospect has already had an affect on the NZ market with AR prices dropping across the board by over $1000 in some stores. It just shows how much the consumer is screwed in NZ - we need more competition here.
The plus side though is that silencers are seen as a safety device. We can also hunt with pretty much any gun we own (exc full auto C-Cat etc) - Canadians can expect to see photos soon of their own manufacturers firearms (NEA) being used on rabbits/goats/deer. Im off on a goat hunt with my NEA-15 next week :)
 
We do import lots of stuff ourselves, if a product here isn't grossly overpriced it's generally not available, so sometimes importing it yourself is the only option. Digit is doing something that will hopefully rectify the situation some what :)

well that is good to hear, as those prices are crazy, hopfully Digit can pave the way for other brands to get to NZ.

I feel for our NZ counterparts. Those prices are bollocks. And we complain that our guns are 2-3 times more expensive than the US. Yikes!

Hey Beavis, move to Canada, man! I have two sisters that live in Australia and frequently have relatives or friends ask me if I'd move too and I always say "no". My first reason? Crummy firearm laws. :bsFlag:
 
Why does everyone feel so sorry for people in NZ? They should feel sorry for us! Sure, they have to pay ridiculous prices but not only can they use suppressors, they are free to move around with their AR's and can even hunt with them.

I don't know about you guys, but I would be willing to pay 2 or even 3x the price of my AR any day to have those freedoms.

No dice. Their prices are at minimum 3x more but most are between 5x and 8x more. I certainly wouldn't pay that much more just to be able to suppress the sound of, or go hunting with, an AR. Would rather use a different rifle for that, anyway, and in my opinion sound suppressors are somewhat overrated (with most the hype due to them being prohibited).

I won't deny that those are awesome perks that I most definitely would enjoy to have but compared to the option of readily affordable firearms, I'd still choose the latter (unless I were swimming in cash, that'd be a different story). I'm not exactly a cheap spender either when it comes to firearms but the NZ prices for some is simply ludicrous. The only thing I wish is that our firearm market was as broad as theirs. I envy that they're able to own Steyr AUGs and real Kalashnikovs.

Ok, I'll admit the advantages/disadvantages of their gun laws/market versus ours is actually rather balanced in most respects. There's good and bad eitherway. Suppose it's up to personal preference and the size of your wallet, which is really the overall determinant. Like a wiseman (Billy Bob Thorton) once said, "wish in one hand and sh*t in the other, see which one fills up first." :dancingbanana:
 
Pretty sure you can pick up a CORE 15 M4 MOE for just under $1100 these days. Not sure why anyone would want that style grip stock on an AR style rifle you would be better off buying a rifle with a bull pup design like KelTec RFB, thats the direction I feel they were going with that. Could be way off though.

One reason these are so expensive is our police enforce a blanket "hand - in" policy on all E catergory firearms and parts. To import a 30 round mag you have to hand an equivalent in for destruction otherwise they won't issue an import permit. This policy is probably illegal but will continue until it gets taken to court.

As I have said before we get to do this in NZ with our NEA15's - worth a small premium I think...
