Having a Revolver just to have one?

I've had a few revolvers over the years, but I'm a semi auto guy at heart. I still have a .357mag 686 4.2" that I got because I though it's a cool gun, but I'm just not using it that much. Is there a point to keep it just so I have a well rounded 'collection' or should I sell it because I know I wont be shooting it much?

I know there are many other shooters in the same boat, what do you think?
 
I like revolvers for shooting in winter, saves picking brass out of the snow and they offer a nice change of pace from semi's all the time. I say keep it just to have one.

I'd say keep it to be well rounded, you'll just kick yourself some day down the road for selling. I have a Ruger GP100, and five Sig autos.....and as much as I love shooting my autos, quite honestly there is a different kind of magic shooting my wheel gun. I bought Rosewood finger groove grips for it from Hogue for my birthday, just put them on yesterday.....yah, keep your Smith. :)
 
I have bought and kept (still do) guns, "just because". I traded my 4.2 GP100 stainless for a S&W 27 that I know I will hardly shoot because it is blued and I want to keep it in mint condition. But I have always wanted a 27 and it is a keeper.

Every person is unique and we all have our own reasons for owning this or that piece. Only you can answer your question. I'd keep that 4.2 Smith.
 
Ever think of using it for IDPA?

It's a hoot! The more people shooting wheelguns the better!

As Clint says "wheelguns are real guns"

(or you could sell/trade it to me...:D)

No you dont need it just send it to me it will be much happier with me and my revolvers :)
 
I've thought a few times about selling my 686, but when I take it out and shoot those nice tight groups (tight for me anyways!), drop the brass into the palm of my hand, and get that feeling of "this is a cool gun", I give my head a shake and tell myself "I'm keeping this forever!".

I don't shoot it as often as the semi, but when I do, I like it alot.
 
I love to keep a revolver in the safe, if not to shoot it but just to enjoy and fondle it and admire their mechanical operation. I especially admire my tiny stainles bearcat, to me it's a little mechanical marvel.

I shoot indoors so pricking up brass in the winter is not an issue, but when I had a membership at an outdoor range I sure wished I had a revolver lol.

Also newbs I brought to the range seemed to be impressed more by a revolver than say a Glock for some reason.

I have to admit I have not shot some of my long guns in a long time, like my 12ga or .380, but don't plan in selling them. Mainly because I don't enjoy shooting them indoors much, plus I live in a apartment and it's a pain in the ass 'sneaking' them in and out.

That's how I ended up with a .44mag as my second gun :D I regretted selling it after...

Sometimes I play with my Smith when I watch The Walking Dead ;)
 
To be, shooting and owning a revolver is a lot like driving a standard; it only seems inconvenient, and hard work to those who don't get it.

Only problem is that I have too much time behind semi autos and am scared of blowing my thumb off by putting it near the cylinder!!
 
I'm definitely a semi-auto kinda guy but I'll always keep a wheel gun for the nostalgia. Love me a Ruger New Vacquero and and one of the S&W 627 series. :)
 
As someone just starting my collection, I think that I would keep one of everything that I ever bought. Only trading up for higher quality when presented with the opportunity.
 
I say keep it even if you do not use it much they are nice to have. I am the same as you but different. I have mostly wheel guns but I keep a couple of semie auto's just to say I have them. Every once in awhile I take them out and blow off a couple hundred rounds in each just to say I used them.

My buddies kid me that my 9mm and 45 ACP have the best home in the world, they hardly ever get used.

Yes, keep it.

My vote is yes keep it.

'Course I shot wheelguns long before I shot pistols.

Personally, I'll always keep a revolver in my gun collection.
