Having a Revolver just to have one?

I keep my 686 for my kids and new shooters.
And it puts a smile on my face every time it comes out of the safe.

I've had a few revolvers over the years, but I'm a semi auto guy at heart. I still have a .357mag 686 4.2" that I got because I though it's a cool gun, but I'm just not using it that much. Is there a point to keep it just so I have a well rounded 'collection' or should I sell it because I know I wont be shooting it much?

I know there are many other shooters in the same boat, what do you think?

If you only bought it for the "cool factor" and the novelty has worn off, then the answer is fairly obvious.Really not too much to think about, just sell it and get another semi, which you seem to prefer anyhow.Or you could always use the money to buy your wife/girlfriend or both something nice.;)

I like revolvers for shooting in winter, saves picking brass out of the snow and they offer a nice change of pace from semi's all the time. I say keep it just to have one.

Bingo,

Thats when I love my revolvers. No picking up brass for 30 mins in crappy weather and snow

A .357 revolver is one of the more versatile "pieces of kit" out there...:yingyang:...and revolvers are easier/more fun to reload for (IMHO)...

That said  , what would you buy instead ?....;)

Well, I just bought my first revolver yesterday. I've came close a few times in the past on some 686's and that XL Hunter, but just never could pull the trigger so to speak.

A buddy showed me the M&P line of SW Revolvers. The R8 peaked my interest and although a rail seems kinda weird on a revolver, to me it was a hybrid of classic meets modern. I like how beefy it looks and the matte black was the final nail...

I'm pretty excited to see this thing in person, I've never shot one either so I feel like I'm walking into the unknown...

A while back a co-worker purchased himself his very first pistol, a Sig-Sauer in 9mm.
One day while we were both shooting at the range,he came by to express his frustration in any kind of decent effect on his target. I let him try my S&W Model 64-3 on my 25 yard target. With minimal instruction he shot twice and hit the nine ring on the second shot. He immediately put it down with a strange look on his face & excused himself & left. Later on at work he admitted he did not want to shoot it anymore as he only had clearance to purchase one handgun at the time.

Ever think of using it for IDPA?

It's a hoot! The more people shooting wheelguns the better!

As Clint says "wheelguns are real guns"

(or you could sell/trade it to me...:D)

:D:D So true! I'm currently running a M65, but have used my 625 lots and on occasion a 627...revolvers make it fun when the bottom feeders start to get boring...and double action shooting is a blast once you get the hang of it. Plus if you can master it at speed, you can shoot almost anything well

You will love it, their lively guns in the hand, and shoot like a dream.

To be, shooting and owning a revolver is a lot like driving a standard; it only seems inconvenient, and hard work to those who don't get it.

Only problem is that I have too much time behind semi autos and am scared of blowing my thumb off by putting it near the cylinder!!

NAY ProblemO! you'll only do it twice!:D

Your right, revolvers are obsolete technology. Better sell it to me for real cheap so you can go and buy more semi's right away! :D

That's how I ended up with a .44mag as my second gun :D I regretted selling it after...

Sometimes I play with my Smith when I watch The Walking Dead ;)

I just bought a nice 586 Nickel because of that show. It's the closest thing to a Python that I could find which I could afford. Mind you, I did not look TOO hard..
