The guns that were initially prohibited were prohibited because they appeared in the Gun Digest Book of Assault Weapons (no I'm not joking) and they were prohib based on appearance. Looks scary, gets prohib. The AR was initially going to be a prohibited firearm, the argument that was used to justify the prohibition was "no legitimate sporting use". Then the anti-gun crowd had to face one of the oldest sporting organizations in the country with a straight face and tell them that they weren't legitimate (DCRA). The antis settled for restricting the AR15 - if they hadn't been backed down by the DCRA the AR would have been prohibited.
As far as concealed carry goes, do you feel better if a drunk 6 foot 6 inch 250 lb bodybuilder with a baseball bat approaches you, because if you're not carrying a gun, he's going to make you his b*tch. so correct me if I'm wrong. Had the booklet for years and finally through it out. Apparently, at one time they were considering a point system, to decide into which category a firearm fell. A gun got points awarded for things like a pistol grip, folding stock, detachable magazine and a few other items. One of those stupid Lieberal things.
....No other reason other than that.Classification is based on how scary some Leftard thinks a Firearm looks.
