I put an ad on kijiji looking for a place to hunt coyotes. how do i answer this reply

Do you not know how the media operates, or did you not read the post by Andy?
He stated the truth of how it works. If she is anti hunting/shooting, which is likely, she will write an anti hunting/shooting article, regardless of what the interviewee states. No matter what is said to her, she will pick out the odd word to reinforce her "interview," and make up the rest.
Your type are the sheep, just going to the slaughter house.

thebuckhunter is right. Running from the media is what (part of) caused all this crap. The public only hears the anti side of the story.

Meet with her, get her direction for the article, prepare in advance, mention things like cost of livestock lost to yotes, loss of pets etc.

Relocating does not work.... trouble in all major cities because yotes adapt to living near humans etc.

Much of the public is discovering that coyotes actually exsist and are now seeing them in towns and cities. Incidents of pets being killed and eaten etc. The public is prepared to get rid of coyotes. Many still believe they should be relocated, but many are just as willing to see them killed.

Ottawa hired a trapper in one "bedroom" community that was just outside the city. The urbanites moved out there for the "country" living and were shocked to find out that came with wildlife that didn't care fluffy was not generally considered food.

The outrage for the coyotes was loud and it didn't take long to get past the idea that relocating was no good, they had to be killed (coyotes - not urbanites :) )

I say talk to her.

Let me try again....

This is a situation that calls for brains, not balls. It seems that where brains are lacking, balls grow to compensate - sadly this rarely ends well.

Swagger into an interview with a reporter who is unknown, or at least not known to be gun-friendly, and you risk being portrayed as a drooling, bloodthirsty Fudd, just like the media loves as a stereotype. Have that happen to you, the ambassador of our sport, and you'll need a miner to retrieve your balls, they'll be up so far inside your body cavity.

Of course it might work out well - it might.

Edited to add:

If you do decide to go ahead:

- find out about the reporter, and read some of her previous articles to get a sense of her style;
- ask her the purpose of the interview, what publication it's for, and the "slant" she will take;
- if you still want to proceed, ask for the questions in advance;
- prepare answers for those questions and some others she might ask; and
- stick to the script. It's ok to not answer some questions. It can turn out poorly if you get drawn into sensitive areas and throw out careless quips. Those are the best quotes.

Thanks bastage...might have given me a heads up that the link was somewhat questionable for work!

The brief look I got at the pic makes me think you wouldn't want to do an interview with her anyway. Besides, she obviously doesn't need any help!

I'll cast a vote for doing the interview. Any, and others, are correct that you need to go into this with your head up and your brain switched on. If your mouth runs faster than your brain, bow out, you'll cause nothing but grief for yourself and the rest of us. Knowing when you're in over your head and being able to admit it is a trait not often seen but it will serve you well in many areas.
 
If you have been through waterboarding and SERE training without giving up the apple go ahead. Otherwise be careful. Only you know your capability.

IF you go:

Take (2) tape recorders and set one up on the table in front of her and have the other one covertly recording in you shirt pocket.

If things warrant it just say "if this recorder makes you uncomfortable, I'll turn it off," turn it off in front of her, then continue on with interview. If she gets crazy, it will be on the recorder in you shirt and then politely end the interview, say "well this interview is officially over" and leave.

If she prints anything countrary to what was actually said. You have the truth on tape to present a rebuttal.

Does her past work indicate bias and hostility concerning firearms/hunting?
Can I go with you? Ive been "interviewed" by the "Best":D:D
 
I emailed here back and politely said that if her intentions are a anti hunter, gun bashing article than I want no part of it. If its about the high population of coyotes and wolves and the consequences of it etc than i would be happy to do interview. It has been almost 48 hours and I haven't heard back from here.

I know how they work. I can read thank you. My point was that you people keep turning tail and running scared of the media. Why should I run away? I have nothing to hide, nor have I done anything illegal. I am proud of who and what I am. Why are you running? Break the law? Got any skelletons in your closet? Ashamed of your sport or hobby? If you answered "no" to all the above, then why are you cowering in the corner when someone sticks a microphone in your face? Are you afraid of being branded as something you're not? If you are, please stop posting, you are only re-enforcing my argument....

I'm surpised this came from you.

I never stated to go in blind. My balls and my brains both work very well. I was a private investigator for 13 years. I know how to mine for info very well thank you. No one needs to retrieve my balls, although I've been known to bust a few.

I didn't say never grant an interview (your "turning tail and running scared of the media"), I said: "Unless you know, or know of her well, I'd say no and move on - too risky." The point I made, more simply put, is do some research before you say yes. For example, I wouldn't grant an interview with Roy MacGregor on a gun-related subject, and neither should your average gun owner.

It's best I think to train people to think first and act second. Throwing out the macho "grow some" is a step backward.

What risk is there? Gun owners in general are all grouped in with thugs and gangsters anyway... There is no "loss" in general terms. The more the "uninformed" public are made aware of our sport and who exactly "gun owners" are, the more they will realize that we are not gun toting rednecks.

Unfortunately there are rednecks in our sport. The rest of us, as responsible gun owners, must also marginalize the rednecks among us. Those are the people that should NOT be giving interviews. If you are a redneck, then anything that was said in an interview will be portrayed in a negative light. Also, when picking a battle, you must ALWAYS size up your opponent. If you think you're in for a serious ass-kicking, then declining the interview is the way to go.

I would not trust the media willing having worked doing media relations and how innocent media enquiries turned into witch hunts. The only way I trust the media is if I know the reporter and have reason to trust. Otherwise, expect the worst. But it does not hurt to call back and ask what the reporter wants to report on and then check her reputation and previous stories she has written. Good luck.

I would say contact her and speak "OFF the record".
Try to get a feel for her attitude.
She contacted you as a reaction to your ad, offering to rid farmers of predatory animals, i.e., it's good for farmers, good for ecology, good for feeding the Province.
According to how she reacts to your questions, offer to take her along on a shoot, but that you would prefer that, first, she accompany you to the range to see how safe firearms handling can be and to get used to the sound of guns.

Then decide what to do and what to put "ON the record" according to how you feel.

We might be gaining a good "converted" ally
or we might be falling in a trap.

That's why the feelers (Stop it, you guys. I also have a dirty mind ;) ) to feel her out with the OFF/ON the record.
