240 weatherby vs 25-06 rem

Quote: "Track" The load that I used resulted in a hunters/reloaders favorite. My 240 Weatherby appears to really like the shorter/lighter bullets. Nine times out of ten the Nosler reloading manual gives me what I like, my second source of good loads is the Sierra Manual. Anyway, here is the hunting load I use in the 240 Weatherby:

Firearm: Weatherby Mark V Euromark
Nosler 85 grain Partition
IMR 4831- 53.0 grains
Norma Brass
CCI Large Rifle Primers - Bench Rest
COL 3.100 Inches
Volocity - 3,450 plus fps
Groupings- 3 shot - 1/2 inch or less

My favorite .240Wby load isn't far off what you've come up with!

Firearm: .240 Wby ultra lightweight.
Bullet: 95 gr. Ballistic Tip
Case: Weatherby (Norma)
Primer: CCI 250
Powder: 52gr. H4831 SC
Velocity: 3300 fps
Accuracy: 0.5" - 0.6"

Relatively mild load, but accuracy is superb! I have used this gun exclusively for the last few(deer) seasons and have not felt the least bit under-gunned. in fact some of the most spectacular bang-flop kills I have witnessed have come from this chambering.

This was a 146" Whitetail from Wainwright. This was the exit wound from a little over 200yds.

This was my Whitetail from this past season, 165 2/8. Taken at 308 yds. with the load mentioned above. He dropped without even taking a step. Pardon the i-phone pic as I have no field pics of him unfortunately. We just did the Taxidermy on him recently and he's still drying ( if your wondering about all the pins in him :p) Still has to be finished and airbrushed.

Nice bucks Marcoman and holy geez that is quite an exit wound on your Wainwright buck. Nosler ballistic tips do it quite often. That is a great load you have as well and I will add it to my list of loads. The original poster will be pleased with reloads on this thread being that he purchased a 240 Weatherby. Yes the 240 Weatherby is a wonderful little cartridge and I would encourage everyone to add it to their inventory of firearms.

PS: Why didn't the taxidermist take out the pork quills?:D

Because I'm the taxidermist:D

It's still in the drying process. They're there just to keep anything from moving.

From the Weatherby web site...
Weatherby ammunition takes advantage of the latest in controlled expansion bullets which are capable of harnessing the higher velocities that provides the ultimate in penetration, large wound channels and more one-shot kills. Nothing shoots flatter, hits harder or is more accurate than a ...
There is also Chuck Hawks opinion of the Cartridge as well "The .240 Weatherby is the highest velocity commercially produced 6mm cartridge. It will drive a 100 grain bullet about 150 fps faster than the 6mm Remington ...if the 6mm is measured in a 24" barrel and the .240 in a 26" barrel, which is the case with factory load ballistics, the difference goes up to about 300 fps."
While the 6mm is not the 25-06 mentioned by the OP there is some fps difference proven.
Tight Groups,
Rob
