Alright so i'm looking at these wonderful rifles, really interested in purchasing one, but i do have a several questions for Tar-21 owners..

What did they actually modified in new model other than the rail..?
What are the pros and cons of both models..?????
How do you find the sights on the new model, the ones integrated in to the rail, are they flimsy at all ?

Also please tell me what do i have to pay special attention to, when buying a slightly used one...

Cheers.

They are, but apparently a U.S. made one appeared at SHOT.

OP, the ones that we have available at the moment are Israeli made, and AFAIK the U.S. ones aren't in production yet.

Thanks for clarifying that. Now was there more modifications made to a new model Tavor then the rail system?

Tavor owners, how can you get past that horrible trigger? The fact that the OAL of the firearm is the same as my 10.5" AR15 and is non restricted is awesome, but that trigger....

It's my understanding just the rail/BUIS is different (nothing internal). I guess the pros/cons are that you're paying less for the newer model - in part because it no longer comes with an optic (was never a big M21 fan myself). If you want to run a larger optic setup the newer full-length rail is probably more beneficial and gives you a lot more real estate to work with.

I can only speak for the older (original) Tavors, but the BUIS are fine (they're obviously not Troy, but they do the trick). I don't think there's anything you need to pay special attention to when buying a used one - other than the same things you'd look for in any other used rifle: round count, bolt, barrel, general internal/external condition, etc.

The trigger is heavier than most people are used to. But at least mine is fairly crisp. I have no issues shooting with it. Keep in mind it's not a match grade trigger so you can't shoot it that way. Shoot it the way you would a battle grade trigger and it works very well.

Some people like to take one of the springs out to make the trigger lighter. I've left mine in. Although heavier it's crisp. When you take one of the springs out the trigger feels spongy like a Glock trigger. Again if you prefer that then it will work for you.

Cons of the Tavor?

The ejection port being so close to your face.
The GSR mark on the cheek is fine for me, but the gasses sometimes burn my eyes. Doesn't happen often, as I almost never rapid fire it. When I run it in Tac rifle matches, it has never been a problem, so that is something to consider.

The trigger is a non issue, what are you guys shooting match ammo too?

Most magazines that are pinned to 5 rounds, will not fit in with a closed bolt. This is a real piss off at first, but you get used to it.
I'm an original owner of an 08' Tavor, so the new ones I can't speak on.

dont get hung up on the trigger.... its not a precision rifle, it will never perform well as such. it works perfectly for what it was designed to do, an accurate and robust fighting rifle that is effective out to 300m. there are a few other semi-auto non-restricted rifles out there that i like, but the Tavor is probably my favorite all purpose NR rifle. my opinion is that they are worth every penny.

I fixed my mag so that it will fit with a closed bolt. I ground some material off the aluminum rail that is riveted inside the mag body so that the follower can go down a bit further. You have to be careful, take too much off and 6 rds will fit

The Tavor really shines in any sort of vehicle borne use. It's so damn compact and handy. Mine rides in the tractor all harvest and has been responsible for a few coyotes. It's smaller than my .22 and never gets in the way.

Also, the damn thing just plain feels good in my hands.

Shooting it off hand, 3 positional shooting is pretty nice too. Balances great from standing, nice and compact sitting, and in prone you can use the mag as a monopod. It really shines as a rifleman's rifle.

dont forget to pull out the spring in the trigger group to improve the pull a little bit. as for my tavor, its a older model with a NEA rail kit on it. the back up sights are decent and i like them for the simple fact the front post is tritium tipped. im not sure if the new back up sights on the new model are or not.

now if we could only get the new X95 tavors over here from acoss the pond.

I just got my Tavor on Friday. Love it! I like my glock so the trigger isn't an issue. You can't insert a loaded magazine when the bolt is closed. I need a riser on my sights to be able to see through them comfortably. I like the grip and the LOP. It feels light.

There are sights on the rail and they come with BUIS. The gas is a little annoying but its not as bad as my cz 858 with surplus ammo. Pmags don't drop free, but they are new so maybe they might after a bit. Reloads are getting quick, hit the mag release with the back of your gun hand and insert the mag with a beer can grip and hit the bolt release.

Overall worth every penny to me.

Don't use a riser. Just use an AR scope mount. Anything AR will make the optic the right height.

If you remove that spring on the trigger group, you might make it easier for it to fire if dropped. That's why it is there.

Still loving mine. Trigger isn't that bad. You get used to it.

If you're paying that much attention to the trigger, you're ignoring ALL THE OTHER REASONS THIS GUN IS SO FRICKEN COOL!!!:ar15:

Every time I squeeze the trigger... a gopher goes to heaven. That's how. ;)

Amen!!!

Cheers
