Is the Marlin XL7 .243 worth getting. Or should I save my money on something more expensive.

$400 gun and $600 scope or
$600 gun and $400 scope

I have one with a $250 Bushnell 3200 3-9 on it, and it is a rock solid setup that has stood up to quite a bit.

It also shoots sub MOA groups with factory ammo if I am doing my part.

I would not hesitate to buy another, and I plan to!

The one I had in .25-06 was a beautiful rifle. I'm looking forward to seeing the new "Varmint" version...I was just reading about it on the Marlin site.

Buy one you "WILL" be pleasantly suprised as to the accuracy that they are capable of.
Checked out the bore with a borescope on a couple of them, sure look like they were lapped. No bad spots and zero copper fouling found after shooting 20 rounds.

I got mine for $279.66 in 25-06/camo from WSS. It arrived yesterday. I did, however, have to call them after two weeks of waiting to remind them to fill the order. Just resized some .270 Win brass and going to shoot it tomorrow probably. I had one before in 7mm-08 and I really liked it. Snooze you lose. ;) Actually, I just checked their website. It's the camo version (click on MODEL XL7C & XS7C under 'type') in 25-06, 30-06, and the 7mm-08 that is still on sale. Apparently. Sometimes. Maybe. Specific enough for you, Bruce? ;)

One thing I really like about the xl7 is that there is a wood variant available for a few extra bucks..... I handled one at Lebarons and thought it was pretty nice.... If they had one available in a good yote calibre at the time I would have bought one....

Is the quality still there in the new ones?
I'm thinking Remington and the Marlin lever actions.

They were created post marlington era (08 I believe)...so quality is the same... I really can't speak much for the lever guns... I never liked them as I have never been a fan of that action.... what I can say is that those that have used the xl-7 afield offer rave reviews.... and the price puts them in budget for most.. and theio ris awood option available which I like...

Thanks, just ordered mine in 25-06. Going to replace the camo stock with a Boyds thumbhole.

I bought a youth model for my wife in 7mm-08 and it shoots great. With the shorter stock it makes a great winter rifle for me when I have to wear a heavy coat. I shot a nice timber wolf with it this past December.

Thanks for the info.
I too, would go for the wood.

Thanks

Wow thanks for all of the info!

I haven't heard one bad thing about this rifle. This will most likely be on my wish list.

Going to the Edmonton outdoorsmen show this Thursday, maybe their be some there. If not WSS here I come. :p
