What was your first rifle ever? Do you still own it?

First gun

Dad gave me a North American Arms (NAACO) No.10 "Grizzly" .22lr in 1968. Still own it. Here's pic of my little guy shooting it when he was 5 years old (now 9). Notice the juice and snacks. Yes he wore shooting glasses when shooting.

No guns or hunting in my family background. Back in the days of the FAC I bought myself a Remington Nylon66. To assuage any parental concern (younger siblings) I undertook never to keep ammo in the house, bought some when I needed it and kept leftovers in the car.

Sold the gun when I emigrated to England to join the Army. When I moved back I got my PAL and the first gun I bought was another Remington Nylon66.

In 1977 I purchased a Browning BLR made in Belgium chambered for a 308 winchester. I purchased it at Canadian Tire and drove home with it under (in it's original box) my arm on my 10 speed bike.
In 1978 I sold it to an Italitan Sporting Goods owner in Medicine Hat, Alberta. I was a starving college student at the time and needed the money. I wish that I could have that gun back today.

First gun was a Parker Hale in 270. baught it second hand the year before the FAC was required. Still own it, still hunt with it. kicks like a mule but...

A Parker Hale 1200C in .270. In hind-sight it wasn't much of a rifle but it did pile up a string of kills before I sold it to a friend 25 years ago. If it wasn't for that, I'd probably buy it back just to retire it.

kicks like a mule but...

Don't they though.:( I used to think .270s kicked because of that rifle. I did a 60 round load work-up on a Parker Hale .308 Norma for a friend's brother on a Saturday morning, and was thrilled to give it back to him. Life's too short to play with bad stock designs with jokes for pads.

First rifle I ever bought was a 94 Winchester 30-30 new from Canadian Tire in 1983IIRC .had it a total of 3 weeks as you couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with it if you were standing inside it.

Was that the old Canadian Tire store in Dartmouth?

If it was, I loved that store. The owner was a gun nut and hunter, so it had, I'd say,.. literally a hundred used rifles and shotguns for sale as well as new. Great prices, and you could strike a deal. I traded my first ever rifle( I already posted on my first new I bought), a gift from my grandfather in 1971, a Winchester Cooey 600. I believe it went on trade against a new Winchester 1894 Wrangler 16"bbl in 32Special around 1984 I bought in that store.

Should have kept that with the box and papers,.... payed I believe$269-289.00, and I see the type on EE in the $1000 range:eek:. What has the world come to.......:p

First .22 was a mossberg semi. The one with the fold down handle on front of stock/felt like I had a mg. It had adjustable mags-short/long and long rifle but only worked worth a #### with long rifle.Long gone. Next was a M1 .30 cal carbine for $10.00/sold it for $25.00 Not that smart some times.

Mine was a Remington 760 in .308 Win, purchased when I was 14. Honestly, the rifle almost ruined me before I got started -- the trigger must have had at least 1/8" of creep in it (which felt more like "forever"), and the stock design and hard butt plate instantly made a flincher out of me. It wasn't until I bought a Ruger 77 in .257 Roberts a couple years later that I discovered that not all rifles are created equal.

Eventually, the .308 got sold. Still have the Bob ;)

Bought my first rifle 25 years ago. It was a remington 700ADL in 308W. Still with me and works great. At the moment it is used as a varmint gun with a huge silencer and a big scope taking out fox, crows, ravens and magpies at 250 yards (bait). Adjusted trigger else original.
That guns is never going to be sold. What if it starts talking??
