With Ontario having such warn weather much earlier how do you think it will impact your turkey hunting? How do you plan to alter your hunting style if necessary this spring

They're already gobbling in my area. I think the rut will be over before the season starts. My game plan is to lay up on fence rows close to hardwood bushlines in my ghillie suit and wait with the 10ga.

Wild animals breeding cycles are regulated by the length of the days, NOT temperatures! I doubt there will be a much of a difference from any other season other than more bugs :D

glang1 is on the money, every year at this time of year I see Tom's strutting and gobbling. They are just getting the pecking order straightened out right now for when the real dance begins.

Good points ... but Im not crazy about the more bugs part ... especially mosquitoes and black flies .. I guess its time to get a Thermacell - I hear they work great

Great on mosquitoes, just OK on black flies. I bring the thermocell and a spray can of muskol. Just don't get bug dope on any plastic calls or other plastic gear...

Not necessarily true... jmop.... I know the whitetail rut never gets too active until there is a cold snap...

I do tend to agree with you that it shouldn't effect the season.... I sure would like to bag my two before the blackfly hatch though.....lol

Mosquitos!! What the problem? I have the perfect solution and no chemicals are involved.

Grow up just outside Winnipeg on river property. Mosquitoes in Ontario will never bother you.

Heard too many good things about Thermacell to pass it up.
Was at Dundee Cabelas last week and picked up an appliance w butane and pads as well as a holster for $24.

This year is going to be the season of the hunter. Hens are going to want to head to nest early and that changes the mating cycle for the gobblers a little and could very well leave the gobblers with no hens or not many on opener making it far easier to call birds to the guns. Another problem that it could raise is if we have a harsh weather in the first week of may and bad rains about the 3rd week of the season could knock the hens off the nest and cause for a bad spring hatch in which turns into a bad season for reproducing in the population. Some of our populations can nit afford many more bad hatch seasons...

Our area suffered from a wet spring last year, 3 inches of water in the woods in alot of areas. The hens were nesting in the drained hay fields as a result. Lots of birds killed and nests destroyed by haybinders.

Scouting indicates good recruitment with the majority of the flocks being last years poults. I am hoping for wet weather now and time for the woods to dry out before the hens nest.

Hey ... it looks like Thermacell in a sleeping blanket :D Gotta get me one of those this year!
