Nice to see. No .44's in my house at this point, and nothing that short for me unfortunately. I did however pick up a nice 5" 27-2 last weekend at the local gunshow. Your post reminds me that I'm going to have to find a nice set of combat stocks for it soon!

Keith has been my idol since I frist started in handgun shooting,
which was a while ago now. I've posted this previously but at the end of a day long visit with him at his home in Salmon Idaho in the mid 70's, I took this picture as I was preparing to depart.

over the years I've looked at the holster he is wearing in the photo and said to myself, "I should get one of those, one of these days". Finally last year I did so.The 5" model 27 is a magnificent looking revolver.
I agree. But I'd trade it in a heartbeat for a 4" 29 if I could haha.
MD Charlton will cut down a 5 inch 629, im sure they would do it for a model 29 as well. I was talking to them yesterday. He really doesnt like messing with the guns that have full underlugs, but it can be done. It doesn't cost that much either, 150 bucks.

I've done this myself, its not terribly difficult. However, chopping down a 17 is different than chopping a 29 in that you are essentially reducing a +/- $1000 pistol to much less.
Think if its done right and it looks like any of the guns above it would sell like a hotcake lol. I dunno, according to Murray, he said that Smith as far as he knows has no plans on making a factory 4.2 inch 44 mag for the Canadian Market. As they dont sell enough 44 mags.
Different Mountain Gun
I just had to get in on this. Mainly because I have not seen one with the laser etched ( or whatever it is ) barrel markings. I don't know much about why it is not stamped but I like it. I would like to know an approximate value in case I get weak and decide to sell. I know how it works, potential buyers lowball the estimate. Not a problem. Just curious. Thanks for starting such a cool thread.

You have an awesome gun, thanks for sharing. In case you didn't know you have a 629 Mountain Gun. It varies only slightly from my Mountain Revolver. For your information the Hogue grips your gun wears are most likely correct.This model was produced for one year only, in 1993. Very few found their way across the border. Your frame will be drilled and tapped ( under the rear sight ) for a scope mount. As to price PM me and I'll let you know what I feel it is worth.

Thanks very much for the positive comments. So far all the ones I have seen are just gorgeous. My 629 came with the same round butt wood grips seen on the Lew Horten in post one. I looked far and wide to find the round grip Hogues. The wood grips hurt a lot. I must remember to clean the cylinder a bit better after shooting. I am a bad man.
