What do you guys think??? Only cost me $8.94!!!

A bi-pod's are useless when you are calling coyotes or rattling for deer. Try it while laying prone...doesnt work so well. Sticks have their place as do bi-pods. I like having both.

Cheers!!

I grabbed a old set of aluminum ski poles, knocked the baskets off and with a few wraps of duct tape to hold them together I'm good to go.

I never could understand the need for shooting sticks... unless you have a bipod and are lying prone I have more stability holding the rifle then supporting just the barrel with sticks...

Congrats to you!!! If I had to stand and try and shoot a coyote at 100-150 yards, Out of 10 shots....I`d miss him 10 times. I need a "rest" of some sort to steady the cross hairs.

Maybe you need to practice a bit more and try a few different positions? Do you not shoot off your pack or up against a tree when the opportunity presents itself?

Most people get more stability using a rest of some sort.

Sitting with my elbows on my legs and the forestock of my rifle supported by shooting sticks is way more stable then off hand.

Wow, no kidding? I wouldn't even think about taking a resting position for a close shot like that. Now, if you get out to 250-350 then yes, a rest is best but I would choose my pack or the closest tree... not flimsy wobbly sticks ... Good lord man, remind me not to take you deer hunting and place you in a tree stand where the wind is blowing the tree side to side and the average shot is 150 yards.

Only at longer distances as stated above. If someone needs a rest to shoot a coyote or even a deer at 100 yards then they either need a great deal of practice target shooting or they are getting the shakes from ingesting something toxic to the body.

Now that aside, I applaud the OP for making something himself at a lower cost... much of what we use in the field can be made cheaper and better by ourselves... cheers.

You do realize yote is about third of a size if a deer??
Sticks have their place; allow for quicker trgr aquisition in a wide field of view with less movement then bringing rifle up from a lap

btw, if you resting your barrel for support you doing it wrong

I am aware of the size of a coyote, yes.

Agreed, assuming the coyote is in front of you... if it comes to your direct left or direct right then you would have more movement with sticks trying to reposition...

btw, if you resting your barrel for support you doing it wrong

...figure of speech... I am also aware of the correct support placement ...

Anyways.... I don't want to go off on a sticks good or bad tangent... not my intention and I don't want to hijack the thread any longer... it is clear that some like them as they exist as a shooting accessory. I just personally don't like them and it was my bad to inject my oppinion in this thread... over and out ...

To the OP, that's an excellent idea and a good job. Would rubber O rings last longer? Maybe a little petroleum jelly to keep them drying out?

I was using a bipod for my coyote gun but it never seemed to quite fit the circumstances.

I had a pair of ski poles that came with some Costco snowshoes that i never used. Tied the fabric loops together for the gun to rest on and some 300 mph tape in the middle as a pivot. They telescope to adjust for uneven ground.

Basically free.

I need them for yote hunting as I like to keep the gun up and ready, deer hunting is more forgiving and I use whatever I can to steady myself.

As for saying that someone needs more practice if they can't make a 100 yd shot on a deer or coyote... I go with what Col. Jeff Cooper says: "If you can get closer, get closer, if you can get steadier, get steadier."
