Are my expectations unreasonable? Re: Swiss Arms service

Ok, so I've had my first issue with my Swiss Arms.

The tritium insert for the front night sight fell out. :eek:

So I called the importer/retailer it was purchased from (the same company), and they weren't willing to cover it under warranty as the gun is about 4 years old (they do have the part, and wanted $37 for it). Now if this was a firing pin/extractor breaking, that would be understandable as those are high stress parts. However, I feel that this is something that should not happen with the part in question.

Now, are my expectations reasonable in this matter?
 
Well you only paid $3500 for the gun "what did you expect?" :p

on the bright side $37 is not bad for a tritium sight
 
its sucks forsure, but if its not under warranty you might be SOL.

Contact Swiss Arms directly, if the importer/retailer wants $$

SA might just send u a new one, or get the I/R to do it.
 
Call to see if there is not a service note, they do take care of it if it did happen to a few rifles, on my Steyr Scout 308 they did change a mag for free after 5 years, they even paid the shipping for me shipping to them the defect mag... JP.

To a degree. As I mentioned, if it were a firing pin, extractor, etc. I wouldn't be surprised; however, IMO the tritium insert was not installed properly as it should not fall out even after even 20 years of being packed in a gun case, taken to the range, shot a little and then returned home. Again, maybe I am being unreasonable with my expectations, but I bought the best, and perhaps I was expecting a little more, especially in resolving an issue that should never have occurred in the first place.
 
How'd it happen in the first place? Too many bumps to the front site while taking out of and putting it back into the safe? ;)
 
Within a year I would say you have a valid issue. But on a 4 year old rifle sorry, its out of warranty. There is no way to know how that rifles been handled in the last 4 years. Sucks to say but I think you should just pony up the $40 and be done with it.
 
Write Swiss Arms and see if they will send you a new one. Then again $37 bucks is very little money. I guess the question is how much time and effort you want to spend on fixing this. If it were me, the quickest and easiest way to get it done would be to just buy the part.

It's more the principle of it. It's not the $37 that bugs me... it's the fact that it's not something that I think should have been an issue. I'll write Swiss Arms and see what they say.

As a business owner.. Warranty is a line in the sand. If you are out of warranty then you are out of warranty. None of this, "Well that part shouldn't break so I expect it to be fixed". This just smacks of the "squeaky wheel gets the grease". I suspect it wouldn't have mattered what part had broke, you would have tried to have it replaced for free.
 
Odd, between the hood and the fact that the night site is a folder, why was it even in the up slot to begin with?

I actually qualified that part several times in previous posts within the thread.

I do deal with warranty issues on a regular basis, and at times, it can be in the businesses best interest to fix something even though it is out of warranty, because it helps establish a loyal clientele base. Naturally this is dependent on the nature of the repair and the original cost of the item to be repaired, as well as the service history on the item.

As for the "squeaky wheel" thing, notice I didn't drop any names. I did this on purpose because I was asking an honest question. Obviously I had enough doubt in my mind as to weather my thoughts on the issue were reasonable, so I asked for what others thought.

You accuse me of several things I have not done, which really bothers me.

But fair enough, I asked for opinions, and I got them.
 
Despite loving the rifle, the price of spare parts (and their relative availability) for Swiss rifles was one of the reasons I decided to get rid of my SAN rifles.
