I did a search of CGN and did not find a thread like this, if it exists already please forgive me.

I was on some of the US milsurps boards just recently and was intrigued by this thread topic. It sure brought out some amazing milsurps. I am also encouraged by the fact that after many years of collecting I have a "rare" rifle, in this case a Gew 88/14 Commission rifle. Apparently there are only 4 known in North America

So I thought a Canadian version would be in order.

Any interest in posting your 5 rarest milsurps? Pics would be great of course.

I dont have 5 rare! lol Only been at it three years.

Bnz45 kreigsmodell k98k
Bcd4 all phosphate k98k

Bcd4 blued k98k

SA stamped SVT40 maybe qualifies.

Thanks for that, awesome start. I would love to see some pics of the SA SVT40.

Likewise, I am sure there are some hidden gems out there that deserve to be hauled out of the vaults.

My pics are terrible. And now that rifle is in pieces. lol.
I know someone who just got one, and has really nice quality pics, he may post them.

I think the rarest milsurp in my collection is a Czech Vz52/57 sniper complete with first gen IR sight (the photo is not mine, but shows essentially the same rifle):

Well with something like that you must have 4 others that are not as rare to add...maybe a couple of G41(M)s or Mosin 1907 carbine !!!!!!

Sorry, I forgot you wanted five... I'm going to have to scrape the bottom of the barrel a bit... here you go:

1. Vz 52/57 sniper
2. Port Contract K98
3. Police-issue Swiss K31
4. All-matching Beretta M1 Garand
5. QMHC M1 Carbine with Rockola barrel (Bavarian issue)

And I realized I really need to get some pictures taken of these rifles.

Only One really rare milsurp out of my ten but in the rough order less commoness

All matching 1941 No4 Mk1 Longbranch

Francotte Pattern Nepali Martini

No4 Mk1/3 Longbranch converted in 1954

1886/93 Lebel

No4 Mk1/2 Faz Converted in 1953

1. All matching 1919 Tula M1891 - The original "Red Rifle"

2. All matching 1917 Sestroryetsk M1891 - Just reeks of history (Russian Revolution perhaps!?)

3. 31st Series Toyo Kogyo Type 99 Arisaka with mum - not rare as a rifle, but hard to find up here. Possibly a 200$ rifle in the states :p

4. 1901 Sestroryetsk 1891 - WWI German capture

5. HAD an original 1927 Izhevsk unaltered Mosin Dragoon. Used in the Spanish Civil War.

Rarest would be a flintlock fusil supplied by the Indian Department of the British Army during the War of 1812 period. Probably given to the Mohawks.
Various Mk. II and III Ross rifles.
Japanese Special Naval Rifle.
Japanese Type 18 Murata rifle.
Starr percussion carbine.
Lots of odds and ends, these are likely the least common.
For an unusual sported milsurp, I have a low number 1873 Springfield, commercially sported by Meacham in the early 1880s, fitted with a Sharps octagon barrel in .40-70SS. Very neatly converted stock, ebony forend insert, wrap around checkering. Meacham had acquired the Sharps assets after the company folded.

I'll play along:

1. 1904 Danzig Gewehr 98, all matching vet bring back, with battle damage and bullet strike
2. 1916 Erfurt Gewehr 98 "Star rifle", all matching vet bring back, with battle damage
3. 1916 Erfurt Kar98 , all matching vet bring back, with battle damage and bullet strike
4.1911 Izhevsk M1891, 1910 dated receiver on a 1911 dated barrel, German capture, three civil guard district markings alongside Finnish army markings
5. Sort of two here: Two Gewehr 71.84s (Danzig 1887 and Spandau 1888) with consecutive unit markings

Springfeild M1D, all springfeild parts with minty bore.
All matching prussian marked "red nine" c96 with matching stock.
Belgian Fn49 in 30-06,
Egyptian rasheed,
and not sure if its rare but a gew 88/05/35 commission rifle.

I think thats about it for milsurps

A "Red 9" C96 is definitely on my list of wants :).

Boy, there are some real gems so far! I will need to edit my offering:
1. SAT barreled M91 with an 1894 Izhevsk (sp?) receiver. Approx. 200 ever made with this barrel marking. (I know of 2 others in North America)

2. Mosin Nagant 28/30 with very rare SAKO gear only on the barrel. No date on top, only the gear; serial #s on the side, real oddball.

3. M91 with "B" (Belgian) barrel, marked "W" (German service), and altered chamber "D", on an 1899 Tula receiver. Not necessarily rare, but lots of "character".

4. 1950 Longbranch DCRA.

5. I now own Buffdog's Swede 1900 M96 made in a batch of 5000 by the Germans, and has never been drilled for a stock disc. To my knowledge, there were only four like this.

Others as well. :) M91's - Remington; Westinghouse; an M91 on an 1892 French receiver, etc.

I have a few others that are "not common" - six digit 1942 Springfield Garand, for one. There are some real sleepers resting peacefully in collections. For example, I've owned the SAT M91 for over 25 years, and had no clue about it until I posted a pic of the receiver on another site. Wow! Did that pic ever create some action! I took it to Virden a couple of summers ago to an informal gathering of other hopelessly addicted milsurp people. Poor smellie just stood there, holding the rifle in his hands, muttering, "They only made 200 of these".
Keep posting those old beauties!
