How to tell if a Sig is German made or not?

I don't think you got ripped off. That older sig may be better built than my new one, but it's how you feel and not me. So whether you got a snot-nosed salesman who didn't know what he was talking about and misrepresented it, I'm not sure.

But $909 all in for a CPO Sig 226 is ballpark.

Stop feeling down and go shoot the hell out of it!

Lets not start name calling here, the salesmen might fix the issue. It might be a weird honest god mistake. Hell maybe they were told by who they bought the pistols that they were made in Germany.

@acm your avatar together with what you are writing is scary.:p

Ok so good news everyone, the dealer agreed to refund it.

Now how can I prepare the firearm for shipping? Can I use zip ties to lock the case? Trigger locks and cable locks do not fit the firearm in it's case.

You can get a 226R-9-BSS (P226, 9mm with night sights) for 925 @ DanteSport.

Agreed it won't be a 'true german built' pistol but the price is right.

You can contact Wolverine supplies for a P226 SL SO (or AL SO if you want an aluminum frame) from germany but be prepared to wait at least 6 months and pay around 1600-1800$

Hey! That's supposed to be what I suggest! (Mmmmmm, 226 SL... Drool...)

Dumante, I have sold several German made 226's in the EE for $1000 and they were all hardly used, some had no slide marks on the rails, like brand new. If you are after a German Gun, then buy a German Gun, they are superior to the U.S. made Guns and far far superior to CPO's. As for me I wouldn't take a free CPO if you gave it to me. They are truly junk and a good way for sig to sell off xs for big profit.

Be patient what you are looking for will show up. Or you can buy an HK that will be proofed with German proof marks and will be as good as the sig.

Yes I am aware of this, .
referring to the German proof mark,

Then your original hunch was 100% spot on when you first opened the box.

Glad the dealer straightened this out.

I have had the same go around with 3 dealers on Sigs and the salesman truly are misinformed on the issue. Many guys own Sigs they believe are German but are U.S. made guns. That is a huge deal with Sig,

fwiw is not a big deal with HK, HK U.S. made are equal to German made, not so with Sig, not at all. .

Wow, our German made P226Rs sold for $899. They were new in box but came without magazines. I guess we were under pricing them by $1000!

FWIW we will have another shipment of P226 guns coming in shortly. The guns are lightly used Swiss police issue. Pricing is TBA and althought I like the $1000 premium idea, they will however be less than $900.

Great! In that case, I would like to order a P226 SL. If you can come in anywhere below $1500, I'll drive over with my credit card this afternoon.

Hello everyone, I'm late to the discussion. I came across this community while searching for information concerning German made P226 models. I purchased a P226 many years ago when I came across a red box version for about six hundred dollars. If your familiar with what a red box version is great for thoes of you who aren't familiar please allow me to explain. A red box Sig Sauer is a pistol that was returned to Sig Sauer by law enforcement due to but limited to replacement for newer equipment. Once received the pistols are inspected and refurbished. Once completed they are released for resell. This is how I obtained the one I currently own. I wasn't aware until I happened upon this community of what I was in possession of. I started to read the various comments and decided to retrieve my sig from the safe and started to inspect the slide, the frame and the barrel. I see the eagle marking and the N on both the barrel and frame. The slide has made in W. Germany. I did not know until this very minute I own a gun that is actually better made then American made sigs not to mention worth considerably more as a collector's piece since the company which produced this particular pistol no longer exists. It feels good knowing that I own a pistol that is worth more today than when I purchased it.

Nice! I really like the P226 series and a German made model will def be better built Imho anyway.
I bought a P75 off a member here a few years back. Mine is serial number A10034xx. Serial numbers started at 1million so one of the first "P226 like series"pistols Sig ever made with the "dolphin nose" slide. Production went to Germany by Sauer and Sohn so they could be comercially sold.
German def trumps made in merca!
Cheers

The good ol'red box refurbs. I haven't seen those float around in great numbers for probably ~20 years. They were a pretty good value option but depending on the year of production, I wouldn't necessarily say they are better or worse than US productions.

Later German productions with stamped slide and with the newer spring frame designs were just fine and arguably better balanced as duty-carry pistols. Early co-production of German framed, machined slides (US production - Exeter) were once viewed as the *better* shooter. All German-made machined special variants are undoubtedly the most coveted pistols to have. Newer all US-production production since the introduction of MIM parts are a mixed bag in many eyes and there are probably way too many variants.
