How to tell if a Sig is German made or not?

I don't think you got ripped off. That older sig may be better built than my new one, but it's how you feel and not me. So whether you got a snot-nosed salesman who didn't know what he was talking about and misrepresented it, I'm not sure.

But $909 all in for a CPO Sig 226 is ballpark.

Stop feeling down and go shoot the hell out of it!

Lets not start name calling here, the salesmen might fix the issue. It might be a weird honest god mistake. Hell maybe they were told by who they bought the pistols that they were made in Germany.

@acm your avatar together with what you are writing is scary.:p

Ok so good news everyone, the dealer agreed to refund it.

Now how can I prepare the firearm for shipping? Can I use zip ties to lock the case? Trigger locks and cable locks do not fit the firearm in it's case.

You can get a 226R-9-BSS (P226, 9mm with night sights) for 925 @ DanteSport.

Agreed it won't be a 'true german built' pistol but the price is right.

You can contact Wolverine supplies for a P226 SL SO (or AL SO if you want an aluminum frame) from germany but be prepared to wait at least 6 months and pay around 1600-1800$

Hey! That's supposed to be what I suggest! (Mmmmmm, 226 SL... Drool...)

Dumante, I have sold several German made 226's in the EE for $1000 and they were all hardly used, some had no slide marks on the rails, like brand new. If you are after a German Gun, then buy a German Gun, they are superior to the U.S. made Guns and far far superior to CPO's. As for me I wouldn't take a free CPO if you gave it to me. They are truly junk and a good way for sig to sell off xs for big profit.

Be patient what you are looking for will show up. Or you can buy an HK that will be proofed with German proof marks and will be as good as the sig.

Yes I am aware of this, .
referring to the German proof mark,

Then your original hunch was 100% spot on when you first opened the box.

Glad the dealer straightened this out.

I have had the same go around with 3 dealers on Sigs and the salesman truly are misinformed on the issue. Many guys own Sigs they believe are German but are U.S. made guns. That is a huge deal with Sig,

fwiw is not a big deal with HK, HK U.S. made are equal to German made, not so with Sig, not at all. .

Wow, our German made P226Rs sold for $899. They were new in box but came without magazines. I guess we were under pricing them by $1000!

FWIW we will have another shipment of P226 guns coming in shortly. The guns are lightly used Swiss police issue. Pricing is TBA and althought I like the $1000 premium idea, they will however be less than $900.

...althought I like the $1000 premium idea...

Great! In that case, I would like to order a P226 SL. If you can come in anywhere below $1500, I'll drive over with my credit card this afternoon.
