So, not sure if this has been up for discussion and me and Search don't
seem to get along.

Best all around chambering between these two?
Deer and moose.
Not sure if elk will be tossed in the bunch.

Female shooter........new too.

I'm thinking Tikka T-3 in the 6.5x55.
I would like to hear your opinions on these TWO rounds.

Cheers.
Looky.

6.5 swede, kill anything you shoot PROPERLY. I like the 7-08 but really a reloaders cartridge, not much factory stuff around. Dollars-Donuts, why not a 260 rem

They're both excellent calibers:D
If it was me I would favour the 6.5x55:dancingbanana:
I find the Swede a little more pleasant to shoot although neither one is abusive

Being it's for a female shooter, it might be easier to find a smaller package in 7-08. Model 7 or something like. They are both soft (relatively) shooting and accurate. One is short action, one is long. Better factory ammo choices with 7-08, real good component choices with 6.5mm. For the game you specified, i'd look at 7-08.

don't know anything about the 6.5x55, other than reading about it and it being right up there with the word excellent attached to it.
I sure do love the 7mm-08 and now I have a 260 to add to the confussion on hunting morning as to which one to grab, my 257 Bob or the 260 or the 7mm-08 or the 308.

Both are really reloaders cartridges, most of the factory 6.5x55 ammo is weaksauce at best.

The comment that the 6.5x55 is a long action may be the tipping point if the gun is for a smaller statured woman. Finding a small, lightweight rifle is more likely in 7mm-08, especially if 'looky is looking for a new rifle.

That said, Tradex has many very nice sportered Swede Mausers that make superb hunting rifles with a bit of tweaking.

Don't really matter much as long as she hits what she is supposed to.Using an appropriate bullet for the game and it'll all work.

Large range of 7mm bullets for reloading starting at 100gr and going way up to 175 or so.

Personally I'd go 7-08 with 140 or 150 projectiles for big game hunting.

Recoil won't be an issue with either chambering.

how about this ......

you what makes the 7mm-08 better .... running a 284 win reamer into the chamber ....

you know what makes the 6.5x55 better ..... running a 6.5x284 reamer through the chamber ... :D :D :D

but these now become almost reload only rifles

in terms of being able to buy factory ammo off the shelf , i'd say the edge goes to the 7mm-08 .

as for buying inexpensive , accurate rifles , the edge goes to the 6.5x55

as for power , when hand loaded in the same action ,to the same pressure levels the 6.5x55 wins .... due to the extra case volume .

these 2 rounds are very similar .... the only thing closer to each other is the 6.5x55 and the 260

I reload for both the 7mm-08 and the 6.5x55.
Own the latter.
She is a fatzo at over 13 pounds but a tack driver to say the least.
Just trying to find a chambering for my buddies wife who will be hunting
this year with us.
Don't wish to scare the gal with the bewt to the shoulder.
I will let her shoot my 308win and see if that will work for her. It is a modified
Ruger 77 being the stock has been lightened up considerably. So if she can
handle this, then maybe the 308win could be the way to go.
Certainly my choice as I bought this chambering for my daughter.
This 6.5x284 certainly has me entertained.
What would the cost be to do this and who here can do it?
Closer to the Pacific would be best.
Cheers.

Coin toss.
They're to close to call. My 6.5x55 with a 19 inch barrel is sweet but so is my 7-08 with a 16.5 inch, and they both are very accurate.
