as for power , when hand loaded in the same action ,to the same pressure levels the 6.5x55 wins .... due to the extra case volume .

So if you load a .270 to factory 7mm-08 velocities, then the 6.8 mm round wins due to the extra case volume?

In a tikka T3, you won't gain any advantage with a short action cartridge, so the 6.5x55 would be the best choice.
What are you saying here?
Tikka uses the same receiver for short and long actions and just
spaces the magazine?
you are confusing things ......
I DID NOT SAY VELOCITIES ....... i said the SAME PRESSURE LEVELS .
in your comparison of the 270 and 7mm-08 ...... factory rounds for both cartridges are loaded to the same , 52,000 cup max pressure ........
yet which one is faster and has more power ?
the one with more fuel to burn .
same thing with the 6.5x55 and 7mm-08 .
load them to the same pressure levels and the larger of the 2 cases will produce more velocity and power .....
the 6.5x55 just happens to have the larger case .
