Hungry Review ProMag M14 Scope Mount Base

Aimpoint, eh? Single slot pad in front? I'm not familiar with the Aimpoint family and how they mount. :(

I will recommend the full lenth picatinny rail of the ARMS18 (at this point), then all of the Aimpoint can be shifted forward or backwards. YMMV

Hope this helps...

Barney and I are going to hit the range this week and I or he will follow up with a full range report on how the promag mount works for ejecting brass with a low mounted scope. I would think an aim point would work well but it might be kind of hit and miss with out the ability to adjust for much eye releaf. I'd like to see one with the aim point Mount from Larue tactical.

I do have to mention that front pad screw... look at the bottom of the picture and locate the front pad screw, you will see the bent circlip hanging in the air. I'm new to this mount and I dunno if that bent circlip is a critical or important issue at this point.

How deep and what size is that screw hole for the front pad?

I expect that the circlip is probably there either as a way of keeping the screw captive or as a lock washer. Blue loctite might be your best alternative.

But I don't have a lot of experience on this...Curious to see how you like it in a couple of hundred rounds.:):)

Keep these write ups coming Hungry. :D
Magnets on the vice for your go-to keys & tools, brilliant!

No problem with the CASM deflecting cases back into action, the underside of the mount is chamfered on the right hand side.

It's a lot higher than the ARMS18 and has more clearance for the case to eject. The issue with the new style ARMS 18 is that they sit in the action instead of on it, and can present problems with some styles of rings or ejection profiles.

And a heavy duty one for $149

You mentioned the one you tested being under $100, have you seen or tested the other one yet?

The one that was tested in this review came in at $115+tax so Deffently more affordable then the ARMS18. The build quality is pretty good though. If any one is interested in one of these mounts, contact Mystic Precision. He was able to help me out and is very competitive on prices.

just curious, i just picked up a Vortex 4 - 12 x 40 scope for mine and deciding whether to go with this mount or a Basset, is the any provision for using the iron sights with these mounts or is that not possible?? It might not matter as I think I may have the front sight inclined to the left, the front sight was drifted to the right in the dovetail, and rear was left of center, I centered both up last time I was home and if I can't get the sight to line up sensible I won't worry about using irons for a while and just enjoy using the scope.

Great review Barney!

Can you, M14 Doc, or someone who has this mount clarify if you can see through the picatiny rail and use the iron sights?

I’m using the heavy-duty steel one mine does not have the ejection port cutout. I got mine special order shipped to my hose way back when from Gerry before he offered them on his sight. All I can say is that I love mine and I have never had an ejection issue

For some reason I cannot find the $98 mount listed on the site (I just get a link to a cheaper aluminum mount). I hope someone could point me in the right direction, as I could definitely use at least one or more of these.

Rushed home from work today to pick up my Promag low profile mount and another Bushnell 10X40, ripped the packages open, read the instructions and started the install. I noted that the roll pin and stripper clip guide were too easy to remove and that mean something else was going to snap, break, self destruct, light on fire or blow up. Sure enough the 3/8" mounting bolt noticed it too and took it upon itself to strip like an 18 yr old girl with self esteem issues. That little b!tch let go with far less than the required 90 in/lbs. Great. Cross the weekend off the calendar and toss that nice batch of reloads back in the safe. Anyone deal with Mystic or Promag to fix this apparent common issue with this "quality" mount?

at m14doc/45acpking's advice, i binned the mounting bolt immediately and bought an arms 18 mounting bolt, which i installed without the circlip. worked like a charm,

Dave at Hi Cal can help you out. Be specific about the bolt's size so as to get the right one. There are ( or used to be) 2 different lengths of bolt for the different mounts.
