model 88? Help please! UPDATE!!

Nothing wrong with that rifle that a little cleaning won't fix. Try a little cold bluing on the thin spots, you might be surprised how well it fixes things up.

How do people not even know the brand of gun they own? BTW, nice gun for $200!

^^
lol I thought the same thing until I saw the gun. The only stamp other then the serial # was the Savage 99 and it's really small and half covered by one of the scope rings. It took me a few minutes to find it :p

But still. If it was registered he would have had a certificate that said "SAVAGE" on it.

Anywho, thats besides the fact.

Not a bit surprised at the Win. 88 come Savage 99.
It is amazing how many hunters do not know what brand of rifle they have. I couldn't count how many gun owners have told me they had a Springfield rifle, when reality they had a rifle of some sort, chambered for the 30-06.
A woman wanted to order mounts for her "30-06" rifle, and got real snotty when I said I would have to see the rifle. She snorted, "It's a 30-06, why would you have to see it!"
Others have told me they had a 308 rifle, but couldn't tell me what kind, when I asked them. The common answer was "Winchester," because it used 308 Winchester ammunition.

Yep, have had the same conversation way too many times. I just think to myself I'm glad everyone has the right to own firearms in Canada.....BUT.......................

300 hun would be $30,000.00, so maybe not such agreat deal....even for an 88! LOL!

Well, I know I only have a grade 8 education in arithmatic and spelling an all, but what I meant was a hundred dollars to buy a used detachable magazine for the Winchester Model 88 rifle, if it was to come with out one, and when added to the purchase price of two hundred dollars for the rifle, would add up to a total of three hundred dollars for the total investment. Am I loosing you here? Which I stated that I think, in my own little low educated mind, would be a good deal! I hope this clears up anything that you, a likely highly educated person, :onCrack: foggy minded perhaps, but could not put together, reading between the lines of my jiberish post.

twodogs, Since I only went as far as grade three I understood your gibberish perfectly. And you can bet your last round of ammo that Gary would have been all over that 88 like white on rice if offered to him for twice the money. :D

It ranks right up their with "You have to use ammo from the same manufacturer as the gun", which is closely related to "You can only Winchester ammunition in a .308 WIN".

There will be a 1950's vintage Winchester 88 (243) for sale at the upcoming May 5th show in Fort Frances, Ontario.
I know the owner and have seen the rifle.
P.S.- I have a few 88 mags here.
