New Desert Eagle quality issues

It's one of the guns I'm looking to pick up this year once my license arrives and the savings on the used market aren't making things too appealing so I figured I'd buy new. But having seen some videos of a guy showing issues on several of them he bought in the past 6 months, including one that "Magnum" tried to fix several times and eventually fully refunding him... are giving me pause.

Does anyone here have a fresh (past 6 months or so) deagle? Especially in one of the gold or other shiny finishes? Any issues with the finish, or other problems?

And does anyone know if they have or at least are working on addressing this? It's sad that this happened after an American company took over production... this used to happen when production LEFT the USA, not entered it.

I can't find the pictures atm, but I did see a gunsmith review one a month or two ago.

Suffice it to say you will be paying a premium for the name. I would handle one first and ask to see it disassembled.

Look for machine marks on the cocking serrations or unmachined surfaces inside the slide (IIRC these were the issues addressed in the post I read). I personally wouldn't pay $2000 for a new handgun with machining worse than a $1000 HK.

Deagles are like fat chicks.

Not the most reliable
Unusually heavy
Large openings
Thin guns look even thinner when a Desert Eagle is in the room
They're expensive to feed
You rarely take them out

If you can overlook those small issues:

Everyone secretly longs for a shot at/with one
They are fun to discharge
Great bang
Everyone stares at you when you are holding one
They are front heavy

All in all, I like mine (eagle that is!)

Don't get me wrong guys, I'm not on the fence about it, I'm getting one. I have about 30-40 rounds through a friend's and I need to have one. In Titanium Gold.

What I'm worried about is whether or not I'm actually getting a worse condition gun buying new, rather than finding a used one made in Israel.

So the general consensus is the quality concerns are overblown?

Mine is great. Out of about 350 rounds, maybe one ftf.

The fun, shock and awe factor outweighs any "perceived" issues

They're a little fussy on ammo, the two .44's I had were anyway. Semi-jacketed or Jacketed rounds were the only things that would reliable cycle. Other than that, they were quite fun.

I bought mine two years ago. It was flawless then and it's flawless now. Fantastically accurate, SOOOO much fun to shoot.

I reload for it and it now costs me about .80 cents a round. I use Hogdon H110 powder, it's a really slow burning powder so quite a bit of it turns into a huge flame ball about 6' long and 3' in diameter. Very impressive.

Watch my friend's grin get bigger and bigger. That's what the Desert Eagle is for - making huge flames, huge recoil, and most importantly - HUGE grins that last all day.

It's Gold Titanium not the version that's actually made of Gold. The real gold one will scratch VERY easily and is really only for viewing not shooting. The Gold Titanium is the same thing they put on drill bits to make them last longer. It's a super hard coating. I've fired five or six hundred rounds so far and there is not the slightest mar in the finish. Truly amazing.

Yup, that's why it's the one I want :) I considered the tiger stripe one but not sold on them and Magnum doesn't have any till next year, working to make the striping the same, not hand made

Thanks, I really debated the one like yours, love the TI gold, but came across this one used in excellent condition with both barrels and extra mags in both so couldn't pass it up. Ordered the grips after.
