I got a turkey today, and had to phone in the harvest details. During the call before you enter your data a disclaimer is played about the collection of personal data. Much to my suprise the disclaimer now states that your personal information may be stored in another country and you may be in there jurisdiction because of this. I have written both my MP and MPP and would urge all of you to do the same.

1 800 288 1155 follow the prompts to the wild turkey reporting, disclaimer plays before you have to enter any personal data.

There is a sign on the door of my local gun shop that says they are no longer issuing hunting tags for the MNR because they have outsourced to some company in the states (Tennessee I believe) and there computer system does not jive with this new outsource company. I am not a hunter but this is what I read on the sign.

Hope this helps.

I read this at Williams Arms Also. Rat Bastards. Leave it to the liberals to outsource labour to another nation during a recession period.

Yes I was informed by a CFO, that Ontario has switched companies they use for tags and went cheap. So if it is out sourced, why wouldn't we still be under canadian privacy laws?

I'm disturbed & concerned about this also! Is there a text transcript of the phone message somewhere? I do NOT want my personal data going to someone in the U.S. I will write to my MP, MPP as soon as I learn more about this.

For those people writing to their MP/MPP, here is the text of the notice so you can quote it. Note that it doesn't specifically say it will be stored in the USA, just "outside of Canada", meaning that they can outsource to the lowest bidder.

This is the full text of the notice which is given right after you press 1 to select service in English.

Personal information is collected under the authority of the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act, R.S.O. 1997, and will be used for the purposes of identification, enforcement, research, marketing, and administration. Personal information may be stored outside of Canada, and subject to the laws of the jurisdiction where it is stored. For information about collection practices, contact the Outdoors Card Centre at 1-800-387-7011. To continue, enter 1. To repeat the notice of collection, enter 6. To exit, enter 9.

Unfortunately, the bold, underlined text is what will apply to our personal data when it leaves Canada! The text in italics only applies to Canadian companies. Anyone that disagrees with me just needs to read the U.S Patriot act.

Funny how the Libs/NDP only seem to be good at one thing: purposely sending jobs out of the country. Makes sense, only way to have socialism thrive is to have everyone unemployed/working with low wages. The worse people are off the more they'll be there to lay a "helping" hand.

Since you "must" report a turkey harvest, what will happen if you don't?

Recieved this reply from my MPP's office today...

I had an opportunity yesterday to briefly make Mr. Hillier aware of the concerns expressed by all who have contacted us.

I also immediately sent an inquiry off to the Minister of Natural Resources' office. Here is the reply I received:

Begin quote:
"MNR has a third party vendor to provide an integrated service that includes licence sales across three service channels: internet, phone, and over the counter. There was an open competitive process to acquire a vendor. The successful proponent is Active Outdoors, which is a division of the Active Network Ltd. The Hunting/Fishing Unit which is hosting our licensing application is headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee. They have data centres in Nashville, St. Louis and Jefferson City to provide load balancing and business continuity protection.

There were requirements written into the contract specifying compliance with Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA).
Active Outdoors has a contractual obligation to abide by the terms of FIPPA. MNR has no reason to believe that personal information stored outside of Canada is at risk for identity theft and does not condone the sale of any personal information in accordance with FIPPA." End quote

I will be discussing this concern, along with the Ministry's reply, in greater detail with Mr. Hillier today.

Sincerely,

The first question of the 'competitive process' should have been "Are you Canadian?"...

Call in for your moose and deer tags you get the same msg. Its not just the turkey #

Ill buy my tags in person in cash and I guess I won't shoot a turkey or bear or wolf this year

If you plan to enter the moose or deer draws I suspect your application will be send into the system, and therefore to the US. If you have an Outdoors Card your information is probably already in the hands of the US company.
