New LAR15 magazines malfunction in AR-15

You can see the problem in your own pic you posted of the comparison of the RRA and LAR mags. Look at the front view pic. You can see that the Round in the LAR mag sits lower. I filed down the front of the LAR mag, the flat part. Will the round slide forward at all? If not its probably the spring, if it does but snags, it's probably the front of the mag, which is what it was in my case.

Yup, the round catches the front of the mag.

Lar mags are good, like most mags though you may have to do some tuneing. You can also upgrade the followers(magpul) and they are just as good as any GI mag.

It never hurts to relieve the area at front of mag body either.....Its a common fix that works well, especially for those that are loading to full capacity.
The issue you are experiencing is no different than those that can use 30rd loaded mags. The easy fix was to load 28-29 instead of 30.

Don't give up on them yet, I have over 2 dozen of them and have only ever had 1 that was finicky(ASC version).

I've been having problems with these mags, and it sounds like I'm not alone. A good aggressive tap usually gets the bolt to chamber a round, but I'd like to get it working the way it supposed to! I'm going to try to file down the mag, but I want to make sure I'm doing it in the right place. Do I have the right spot?

Thanks for any help,

Yes. That is the correct spot. I modified my LAR mags a few days ago, but didn't have a chance to get to the range until today.

I filed abut 2-3 mm off this area and didn't have a single problem.

Good luck

That makes sense, the case seems to hang up on the edge of the mag. The sides of the mag are really harsh as well? Scratches the brass all to hey. I was thinking that it might be a good idea to emery those edges?

I just bought 10 LAR15 mags from Questar and they work perfectly in my Tavor. Maybe I just got lucky, maybe you didn't, or maybe something about the Tavor doesn't care. The rounds seem a bit tight in there, but they still come out without too much hassle.

I bought 2 yesterday from P&D (RRA marked) and filed the front lip of just 1 last night. Tested them today, they both functioned 100% in my Core15, but the non-filed one does drag like hell on the cases, so I'll probably touch it up too.

The last LAR15 mag that I got from Questar seems to feed much worse than my older LAR mags. I noticed that the two indentations on either side of the feed lips are showing through on the inside of the feed lips and catching on the cartridge heads. I'll try polishing in those areas and see if it makes a difference.
All the metal AR mags that I ever owned feed way better than these mags, it's a shame that a third rate manufacturer was contracted to produce these RRA magazines.

wierd... i got RRA mags from questar last year, work great, even with me dropping them on the feed lips since they are coupled

new batch now?

My black LARs have not had one issue with a ton of rounds through them but my grey RRAs sometimes on a couple of them the follower stays stuck halfway down the mag with ammo still in there.

Anyone have this issue and fixed it? I am thinking it's a squished mag or a bur inside. Bolivar is that what you meant by "sticky mag"?
