Who esle owns an XDm?

Some serious hate there for Springfield, eh?

Many of Springfield's 1911 (like their Loaded series) are made in Brazil. Does that make them poorer 1911s compared to US made ones? Also, what's wrong with Croatia?

On that note, I do agree XDms are a little high priced for a striker fired gun. Especially in Canada.

I am not an XD or XDM fan. The gun is ugly to start. As for ergonomics, the XD's sit way too high in your grip. The grip safety is there for what? And what about that trigger pull? With the exception of the Beretta 92FS series, all of the current popular polymer guns have no barrel bushing. [unlike the 1911 platform] The XD series has no barrel bushing so it makes little difference if they have a so-called match barrel. Locking the barrel at the front and the back is better, way better than no front barrel bushing.
For a gun that is made in Croatia, it is priced too high. Plus the XD and the Xdm compact series are not compact at all. Now I am sure there are lots of XD owners out there that love the gun, but you have to ask yourself why Springfield Armory brings in the XD? Why don't they make their own polymer gun, like Glock, Smith & Wesson and others? Even STI makes a polymer frame gun. If you guys remember, SA brought in CZ clones and then quit that line too.
I'm still new to owning the XDM and haven't yet formed a 'final opinion'...I always found the old XD 5" to be pretty ugly, but than again I don't like the look of any longslides out there Glocks, 1911's included. XDm on on the other hand are quite good looking IMO esp 3.8 and 4.5 models. Sure it doesn't sit in the hand as low as a Glock but it does not have a high bore axis by any means. Not a big fan of the grip safeties myself (incl. on 1911's) but it does not interfere with the ergonomics and I find the trigger to be pretty light and short. Are you saying Beretta is a polymer gun that has a barrel bushing?? Or am I reading it wrong? Also STI's polymer gun - GP6; is really a Grand Power of Slovakia and not their own design either. Yes XDM's are expensive in Canada, largely due to the dealer markups - which is not the SA's fault.

Perceived trigger pull on my XDm 9 is great - I don't have a device to measure it exactly, but I don't have a single issue with it and find it quite nice actually

Funny how when someone wants to "hate" they bring up the country of origin/manufacture as being questionable therefore a reason to dislike. Most of the guns you buy are NOT USA made. Funny how when someone looks for a Beretta 92 series et all they always want the ITALIAN model over the US model.... enough said I think.

I run an XD-40 & XD-45. My wife runs an OD XD-9. My 40 is my go to gun with over 15K rounds to date. Been thru some intense courses shooting in excess of 1K rounds per outing. This gun still runs exceptionally well and has to date never experienced any kind of malfunction. I intentionally went 2K without cleaning and it continued to go bang with every trigger pull.

High priced for a striker fired gun??? You're paying for more than just that.. match grade fitted barrels, tuned triggers, improved sights, compensated slides, adjustable grips etc (depending on model). The XD-M is not simply a rebranded XD. I think you need to do a more in depth comparison if that's what you think.

I don't have an XD-M YET.. simply because I run 2 XD's already but it is on my list.

Just my $0.02

I'm an XDM owner and I really like my gun.

I do find the price to be a little high for a striker fired gun. Compared to the M&P and Glock it's significantly higher (800-1000 for XDMs compared to 700 for M&P and Glock). The Ruger SR-9 can be found for $550 or cheaper! Mags for XDM 9s are going for almost $60. Trigger kits (from PRP at least) are $100-$140. Just the other day I was at a shop looking for aftermarket sights and they guy showed me a Dawson Precision set for $150! So yeah, the XDMs are higher priced. XDs on the other hand, could be found for a cheaper price.

That being said, when I bought mine it was at a lower price than what is typically found nowadays. I do like the value of getting a nice pistol case (I use it as my primary), decent holster and double mag pouch.

Compared to the XD the XDM is an improvement, but is it better than M&Ps or Glock? Well... that's highly debatable (as seen on other forums). I'm personally happy with running the gun stock. I don't shoot it better than I do my 1911s, but I do shoot it better than a Glock and M&P.

But, I'm a tinkerer and I like to slap aftermarket crap on my guns. I want to throw a fiber optic front sight, and maybe try out one of those PRP trigger kits. Might even try one of those grip tape kits from PRP too! But, I want to fund other projects so I'm happy with running my XDM stock for now...

I know a lot of people have XD's but I don't see to many XDm threads. Who else has one? What do you think of 'em?

I had a XDM bitone in 45ACP. I found it really accurate, it has the match barrel. Its a nice gun, but i do hate those grip safetys.

Not that I'd recommend it but, if you really hate the grip safety, some 5 minute epoxy will solve that real quick lol

Personally, I actually like it

Don't really see it as an issue. Perhaps where I shoot mine so much.???

I don't even give it a second thought. Even a half-@ss grip will fully seat it and make the firearm operational.

I really like my XDM-40, my accuracy with it is the same as with my P226E2 which is also a .40S&W. The only change I'd like to make is having a shorter trigger reset. I already got a trigger kit from RockRiver Arms just haven't had the time to put it in.

I decided to sell my XDM9 if I cant find the SS/OD trade I'm looking for (and just buy one) so if anyone is looking to buy an all black XDM9 PM me...

just talkin :)

I wanted one for two years . Finally had a stainless in 40

The grip was to long ... made the gun feel huge.
Some of the roll pins where backing out after firing it 30 times.

It felt kinda awesome. yet odd.
I think they are great , and over priced

I look at at the
XDM Compact 9mm$1149!! all the time. BUT 1149!!!
ill look for a used one and it would be a stretch to pay over 850

My xdm 45 4.5 just arrived in the mail. The gun came NIB with the #1 backstrap installed. Can anyone confirm if the number one is the smallest of the three? I have small hands, and holding one handed feels just a little off. Two handed feels much better, as there is lots of space left on the grip for my supporting hand, even better feel than my 226. Any chance the #2 grip might feel better, even if it is bigger. Anything to get my thumb a little closer to the mag release. The #3 grip is twice the diameter of the other two, so definitely no chance for my hands.

As far as price goes, I only purchased this pistol because I got an exceptional deal on it. During the edge's Easter sale, all spring xd(s) were 30% off. I didnt have to push hard at all to get the last xdm .45 they had in stock included at the sale price :). In fact they read my mind, and offered without me even asking. The 2009 gun of the year for less than 600 bones is a deal no man can refuse. Furthermore spare mags are very comparable to other similar brands. Picked one up on Saturday from wolverine for exactly 41.25. Despite what some have said on here I find the xdm brand and accessories comparably priced even without awesome Easter sales.

I will be hitting the range with her for the first time tonight, I just hope with a full mag of 45 on board she feels a little more natural in my hands.

Yes the #1 strap is the smallest, but don't be afraid to try the others as they tend to position your hand a little differently more than make the grip bigger per se. That #3 is huge though. I ended up settling on the #1 and then slid a rubber Pachymar grip sleeve on it. Ends up being somewhere between #1 and #2 and just feels right to me. Welcome to the club :)

I have an XDM 40 with a 9mm conversion bbl.I had ftf early on but found that it was rivet used to pin the mag causing the problem. Once that was corrected I had no problem s with the 40.
5000+ rds through it no issues. I have run the pistol hard in a couple of tac matches.
One of the matches was during hard rain and high winds and the gun ran 100%.
Xdm Has a shorter reset than the Xd and I find it one of the most control able and shoot able pistols I have shot.

Can you explain this better? Did you shave down the pin ? How did you figure this out? Would it not Fire or just light striker?

I added a XDM 9mm to my collection a year ago and I had no issues so far. In my humble opinion ,Compare to other polymer strike fire handguns it cost too much.

Holy re-birth of ancient thread batman!

I do have an XDM 5.25 Bi-tone in 40. After putting in the Powder River Precision trigger it became a real runner. Just wish I could shoot it more.

I really like them, and the ONLY thing that is holding me back is the really high bore axis. It sits WAY up there. Compared to my SR9, or the FN FNS9 or the Walther guns, it just seems to be way up there. When I was in Vegas at a range, I played with all of those, and I loved the XDM in every way except for this. And being that the slide was so far up, if you tilt the pistol even a bit(say, off hand shooting) it wants to flop over. The FN is much better in this regard.
