Has anyone ever installed a Boyds on a weatherby vanguard ?

How was the inletting ? Much extra work to do ?

Did you free float or put in a pressure point ?

I put a Featherweight Thumbhole on a Vanguard, very little work, I free floated the barrel, took about 10 minutes. I have put Boyd's stocks on 3 Rugers, 1 Savage, and 1 Vanguard and I never had a problem and never took more than light sanding except for the Savage I used the dremel to increase the size of one spot for the mag retaining clip.

I did 6 in the last little while, 2 more to go. 5 out of six were the easiest bedding jobs I've done, one (.300 Weatherby) needed the barrel channel opened up a bit. The action inletting is opened up a bit on the sides to leave room for bedding compound.

It may seem like heresy to some, but you could probably just drop your barrelled action in and tighten the screws. Flat bottomed actions are a natural for machine inletting.

I leave the barrels free floating, just do a little shoe shine sanding with a strip of emery cloth to even up or open up the barrel gap.

I have the time to take the triggers apart, stone, reassemble and set down to 35 minutes apiece. :)

Good to here. There are some pretty cool option on the Boyds site and the grey tupperware of the Van guaurd S2 is screaming to be replaced.

Maybe one of their blue, yellow, purple combos:) or not:D

How did the new stocks impact accuracy ? Curious as the rifle is going from a stock with pressure points on the barrel to free floating.

Good, bad, no change ?

No change in accuracy for mine. I did not like the classic but I really like the Prairie Hunter and the Featherweight Thumbhole.

The S2 stock is cheap to say the least. I dont remember the S1 stock being bad at all. Boyd stocks are decent, I just wish they came with checkering.

As far as I'm concerned pressure bedding is a manufactureing shortcut. I never shot all of them before restocking, but did shoot most of them. Seeing as there is an accuracy warranty you may as well find out if you bought a lemon first.

When I go to the range the table racks are bristleing with my rifles, some of them costing 5 to 7 times as much as the Vanguards. I'll admit to feeling a little sheepish at times when the bargain guns are outshooting the expensive ones. I've got triggers that cost more than I paid for some of those tupperware Howabies.

Actually you can get checkering as an option, but it bumps the price over the magic 100 bucks. Look on their website under "laser engraveing". They were after me in get an importing license that would take care of that problem (and the $40 some freight). Still might if there was some interest in checkering and walnut stocks.

Of the 2 boyd's stocks I have purchased so far, they all see rather oversized, especially in the exterior dimensions. This wasn't a problem for the first stock. However, for the second, when dealing with a floorplate box magainze, it was a hassle as I had to carefully hog out material so that the floorplate and the action where the proper distance from each other. As it came from the factory they were at least 1/8" too far apart. That might not sound like much, but it does translate into quite a bit of woodwork. That being said, all the major inletting was spot on, such as screw holes and all that.

I just fine hunting with a stick with no grip, it a pain in the bum. My old winchester M70 Ranger was like that. Drove me nuts. I got a Boyds stock for my Ruger 300 Win Mag and was going to have Jerry bed it, but I just noticed there is no checkering. I might just keep the factory walnut...
Over 100 bucks, Boyds wont even ship it. I do like the new Weatherby S2. I just about bought one in saskatoon the other weekend in 223.

I just put a Thumbhole Featherweight on my Vanguard 22-250 and installation was easy and straight forward, only took a couple of minutes. I haven't had a chance to fire it yet to see if poi has changed at all. Overall the stock is beautiful and fits me very well. Probably gonna get one for my 10-22 also.
