Carbine caliber... .40 or .45?

Hi

I finally decided to get myself a new toy, this time a semi-auto carbine in pistol caliber.
I'm leaning towards .40sw, because I already reload it and have all the stuff I need, but a couple buddies at the range suggested that I get a .45acp instead.
Is there any real advantage in getting it in .45? I searched the internet all day, and besides biased opinions, the only thing usefull that I found is that the .40sw is a higher pressure cartridge and would benefit more from the longer barrrel. But, as a noob, that could also be BS and I wouldn't know.

So, if you guys don't mind, your opinions/suggestions are welcome!

Thanks

I'm thinking about a Highpoint 4095 or 4595.
I tried one at the range and liked it.
Liked even more its price tag. lol
The kel tec, although it's about 50% more expensive, would be another option just because it is non-restricted, but it's only available in 9mm so it's out of the list. The JR is just way out of my budget.

The JR is top notch....well, the 9mm is anyways. Love mine. and un like the highpoint and keltec, its not made in the same plant as fisherprice toys. the only plastic on it is the grip

Totally agreed. I just recently picked up a 9mm JR ... no issues at all.

Stay away from the .40 and .45 cal's .... they both have big issues.

I'm planning on a JR in .40 soon. With a powder like Alliant's power pistol, and a longer barrel, it looks like 10mm territory out of a pistol. Cool.

Does anyone have any other powders to suggest for the longer barrel? I could just trial and error quickload for 20 minutes to come up with something but I know there are reloaders out there that just know :)

45ACP, for one reason, because (in my area) its more readily available.
As for PCCs- I've always wondered about the velocity of these rounds, out of a longer barrel, and at an attainable distance. (ie: 5-10 yards?)

x2
If anyone has a good recipe for .40 + longer barrels, please share.

the 45 acp is designed to burn completely in 5 inches of barrel- period- anything longer is NO advantage as far as velocity is concerned; it has to do with the low pressure of the round ; now, the 9 mm ( and i've proven this) benefits by having a longer barrel ( i have corno'd two identical rounds , one out of a 5 inch beretta 92 and the other out of my 10 inch UZI) and found at least a 200 fps difference , even though the uzi iz an open bolt) seeing as the 40 s&w, or the 10mm for that matter, are prodigy of the 9mm, the same rules should apply;
now. if one were to start refercing the 45 super, the 451 detonics, or the 460 roland, the rules MAY also apply, but the standard 45 acp- no way
