Shorten PAL Approval Times

We wondered that, or as were ex-pats maybe they have her place of birth as a special code & that's why it doesn't show up. Will know in a little while...

Wife spoke to the CFC today, her application has passed initial processing & is in progress, lady said there were no errors listed & to check on-line again.

She did say that the log-in is case sensitive and can be quite quirky on commas & spaces. Said to try different combinations as 'errors' occassionally get made in capitalising.... and that'll keep you out.

Tried a few combinations & finally got in..... needed to put city, area & country for the home town seperated by commas instead of just the town & country.

Least we can check it ongoing & now know what to use for mine too.... :)

Wife's time line :

PAL posted by std mail - 28th March
Application recieved - 12th April

My time line :

Updated

mine also says "Currently passed initial processing & in progress"

anyone have any estimates how much longer it should be after it says that on the site ?

Initial Processing is the entering of your paper form into their electronic system. You should be able to call in and do your interviews at this time. It's very handy if you can get both your references together with you and all 3 do your interviews at the same time. I did this with one of my references. "Well, Aaron happens to be here with me now if you want to do his interview too? Yes, that will be fine."

I sent in my Rpal paperwork to upgrade from pal on April 16th 2012, still hasn't showed up online... Should I call CFC to confirm it has arrived? I live in bc.. Figured it would only take a week to get there?? What do u think guys/girls?

Well, the only update is that the funds cleared on the 24th of April last. I just called Miramichi, they told me my file is with the Québec CFO for final approval. I was a bit surprised and asked them if I or my references did not have interviews to be done before the file was transfered to the CFO for approval. She replied that the file is with the Québec CFO and that they are the ones conducting interviews if there need be.

I was a bit late today to talk to the Québec CFO (closes at 1600 EST), but last time I did they said that interviews were never done on a basis of the interviewees calling in themselves, and that I had to wait for my turn or else "it wasn't fair for the other people in the line".

I understand the concept of "call tomorrow" to get somebody else on the line and possibly another answer, but I just thought I'd share for all the ones having to deal with the Québec CFO.

Spoke with a different person today for the third time. It seems official Québec CFO policy that one cannot call in for his interview nor have his references call in either. They treat files in different priorities as I was explained and that they would be contacted accordingly.

Also, Québec CFO indicated that they run their own interview system that is apart from the RCMP/Miramichi/CFC system. As such, that extension number workaround is of no use.

Welcome to Québec, I guess.

I was about to call in for my interview I guess there's no point now ,I just have to wait

Call in anyways you never know. Worst case scenario would be the same BS they gave ph33r. If that is the case then I really feel for you guys in Quebec, just when I thought that being in Ontario was bad.

i dropped mine in the box the same day as you i called and was told it is taking 3-4 weeks for them to show up on line.... obviously not a very efficient office.

I dropped mine in the mailbox non registered mail on monday the 16th of april. still not showing as received on the site. i called today and was told it takes 3-4 weeks for them to receive applications and to call back after 4 weeks had passed. i have my pal already and am applying for my rpal so im glad i wont have to wait the 28 days as well. will keep posted .

Don't believe it. Call when it shows up online.

Got my RPAL today. Thanks for a good advise on this thread after waiting for 28 days since application appeared on line called CFP number, got ext.number and asked references to call RCMP.After last interview license was issued in half an hr. It took 10 fays to recieve it on mail.Good luck everybody waiting!

In Alberta mine was within minutes, but from following this thread for the past couple months it seems like Ontario takes longer.
x2

After delaying my request to call for literally one week, my second reference called the CFC this morning shortly after 9 AM Edmonton time. She then notified me of having done that a few minutes later. Immediately after reading her message -- shortly before 10 AM -- I checked my application status and, sure enough, my license had already been issued (but "it may take up to two weeks" for me to receive it).

So, in Alberta, at least, the time between the completion of the second reference's favorable interview and license approval is, as digital said, "within minutes".

Does anyone know if the PAL or RPAL license number is the same as the license application number?

(I suppose that because Toews may be recinding several of the CFOs' illegal dictum to retailers to maintain a quasi-registry, if one wants to really have an "under the government radar" long gun, it would be better to wait to get the PAL in the mail to show to the retailer in person, rather than attempt to ascertain the as-yet unreceived PAL's number and then ask the retailer to accept that in order to obtain a long gun immediately. But in this latter case the retailer would have to call the CFC to verify that that information is true, etc. To wait and have stealth, or not to wait and have no stealth? -- that is the question.)

It's a totally different number than the reference number. Waiting sucks but your card should be in your mailbox soon :) As far as buying a non restricted I would wait until the card comes then you can just 'cash and carry'.

Thanks, digital.

In your case, what was the length of time between license approval and receipt of the license in the mail? (You're in Alberta, so my experience will likely be very similar to yours.)

Thanks again.

So I called today , The girl said "who told you, you have to do a interview" I replied I read online we have to call in to do a interview .She said "no only for RPAL and your application has been sent to the cfo for review"

I really don't wanna call back ,every time I call I get attitude from one of those ladies , its like the're constantly PMSing or something

Well, it sounds to me like neither you nor your references are going to be called for an interview, so this may very well be good news.

What does the following site say about the status of your application?
