Shorten PAL Approval Times

At least we now know that's the extension to use. The CFC is pretty easy to deal with, the CFO's office not so much. I called them up on wednesday and was told that it was with a firearms officer, was transferred and got voicemail, left a message. Nobody called me back so I called again today. Was told I was being transferred for approval, but again voicemail. Called back shortly after and when transferred got a message that nobody is available to take the call. I am really sick of this run around, approve the damn thing already!!!!

I just sent a message to my two references. No doubt they'll call in. After they do, I think we'll both find out if there really is an "Alberta Advantage".:D

What makes no sense to me is that most people on the west coast get theirs approved at 28 days as soon as interviews are complete. From my experience, after interviews are complete the application is sent to the provincial CFO for approval. Are the western CFO's automatically approving apps that are sent to them?

It seems that they are or simply rely on the RCMP's background check as sufficient. Either way, check the status of your application online once all interviews are done to see if it gets approved. If it does not, contact the CFO's office on monday to see where your application is at. If you actually get transferred to someone other than voicemail it may get approved on the spot. I hope you have better luck than me!

I would call in close to the 28 day mark to get interviews done if you have not been contacted yet. If you call prior to 28 days they may tell you to wait longer.

That's why I was going to call on Monday as my 28 days are up on Tuesday. I didn't want to push it calling yesterday to verify I was missing info then to call today. Should be good to get everything done by Tuesday.

Anyone know if that 2533 would work outside of normal business hours -- like in the evening or on the weekend?

(I think there was some mention of when to contact the references on the application, but I'm not sure about that. Otherwise, if the people who do the interviews don't work after business hours, or on the weekend, how would they contact a reference who works during the day and cannot be reached at that time?)

When you explain the circumstances of your references, they will try to find an accommodating solution.

My second reference (my brother) was overseas and his interview was the only thing missing. However he gave me his International cellphone number where he could be reached. I called Miramichi with this info. They assured me that they would call him immediately I hung up. Three minutes later, my file showed Approved and license on the way. And BTW, they do print them on other days than Friday too.

Did you answer "Yes" to any of the questions on the application? Usually your province seems to be pretty quick to issue licenses.

i answered no to all the questions, and my references said no to all them as well
im thinking it was just the woman i talked to unfortunately when i called back i got the same woman

hopefully today she wont answer the phone and ill get the guy that i had when i called earlier to see they had received it from Miramichi

Unfortunately, only us Ontarians must get our test results stamped from the CFO. All other provinces receive their test results as soon as the course is completed, as it should be. I know it sucks!

What horsepoop! Damn it! I'm traveling for 3wks in June/July, so hopefully I can get everything going before I leave.

What province are you in? How long was the entire process for you?

In Ontario:

- Tests (for PAL and RPAL) challenged on 23 Feb.
- Got tired of waiting for results and submitted application on 23 Mar
- Received test results on 20 Apr (two month wait) and faxed them to CFC on 23 Apr
- Called CFC directly on 24 Apr and asked if they had everything, was referred directly to the desk officer with my file and did my interview. Then asked if I could have my references call in to speed process and was given an extension number to have them call.
- Both references called on 26 Apr and completed interviews
- File completed on 3 May and RPAL issued

One of my references tried to call 20 minutes before published closing time and there was already no response, just an automated message. So I would guess that it is not 24/7.

You were also not approved right after all interviews were complete. Did you answer "Yes" to any of the questions on the application? Is your record clean?

Clean record, all "NOs" to the questions, serving military. Still didn't get the quick pass through.

That seems to depend on the position of the planets.
I called two days ago to check if there was any missing information or problems with mine and the lady said it was fine and asked if I wanted to be transferred to do my interview. I said no because my break was almost over. I called back yesterday and got someone else and she said my application was not ready for the interviews and that I would be contacted in about eight days, coincidentally also the end of my 28 day waiting period.

Pretty much seems like it depends on who you get on the phone.

Use the extension number a few pages back and skip talking to an operator at all. If you know your application number then you can do your interviews, get your references to do theirs as well.

Current Status: Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canada Firearms Centre Toll Free number. (1-800 731-4000)

How long does it usually take for them to send it to me? I check the mail twice a day :D

:)
