I'm sure most of you that shoot much rimfire are aware of the CCI CB shorts and longs. Nice quiet little rounds with a 29grn round nose bullet at 710fps and no louder than a fast air rifle. Perfect for pest control around your property. Only problem I've had with them (CB's) is #1) they dont feed through guns desinged for long rifle ammo only and #2) they havent always been all that accurate like most short and long ammo in a long rifle chamber and really "lead up" the throat because of the jump. This year CCI has introduced Quiet 22 Long Rifle. It's like a CB long rifle. 40grn round nose bullet at the same 710fps as CB's. It's slightly louder than a CB but still no louder than a fast air rifle and a lot quieter than sub-sonics. Since its a long rifle round it will feed through the clips and tube mags of guns that are long rifle only. If my Ducks Unlimited Marlin model 60SS semi-auto is fresh from a cleaning they will even cycle the action. Accuracy with the Quiet 22 Lr is much better than the CB's as well. In my 44yr old Winchester Model 250 I can shoot 1" groups at 30yrds with very few fliers and my sons Savage BVSS will shoot clover leafs. Much better than the 2"+ groups with the CB's I had always shot. I've been using it for keeping the Grackles and Starlings out of my Cherry trees and its been doing well with 20-40yrd shots. Its quiet enough that it doesnt even scare the Orieles off the feeder hanging in the same trees.
It's starting to show up in a few guns shops and the ones I havent seen it at have been looking into getting it when asked. Just thought I pass a little report on it along for any of the rimfire guys that may be interested.
