I'm sure most of you that shoot much rimfire are aware of the CCI CB shorts and longs. Nice quiet little rounds with a 29grn round nose bullet at 710fps and no louder than a fast air rifle. Perfect for pest control around your property. Only problem I've had with them (CB's) is #1) they dont feed through guns desinged for long rifle ammo only and #2) they havent always been all that accurate like most short and long ammo in a long rifle chamber and really "lead up" the throat because of the jump. This year CCI has introduced Quiet 22 Long Rifle. It's like a CB long rifle. 40grn round nose bullet at the same 710fps as CB's. It's slightly louder than a CB but still no louder than a fast air rifle and a lot quieter than sub-sonics. Since its a long rifle round it will feed through the clips and tube mags of guns that are long rifle only. If my Ducks Unlimited Marlin model 60SS semi-auto is fresh from a cleaning they will even cycle the action. Accuracy with the Quiet 22 Lr is much better than the CB's as well. In my 44yr old Winchester Model 250 I can shoot 1" groups at 30yrds with very few fliers and my sons Savage BVSS will shoot clover leafs. Much better than the 2"+ groups with the CB's I had always shot. I've been using it for keeping the Grackles and Starlings out of my Cherry trees and its been doing well with 20-40yrd shots. Its quiet enough that it doesnt even scare the Orieles off the feeder hanging in the same trees.
It's starting to show up in a few guns shops and the ones I havent seen it at have been looking into getting it when asked. Just thought I pass a little report on it along for any of the rimfire guys that may be interested.

I picked them up for $39.99 a brick from Grech's in Mount Forest ON south of Owen Sound. That's puts them at about the price I'm paying for CB's

Quiet-22 Range work

I fired some CCI Quiet-22 ammo out of my Savage MKII Classic to see if this ammunition could possibly be used for our Youth silhouette shooting. I zero’ed at the 40 metre sand pit (silhouette Chickens), then extended the shots to 60m (Pigs), 77m (Turkeys) and 100m (Rams).

As suspected for slow-speed ammo (advertised 710 fps), the trajectory resembled a thrown brick. The drop in POI (Point Of Impact: being 0 at 40m) as the range increased was:

60 m 5.5”
77 m 15”
100 m 27”

With the wind blowing (and not using a rear rest), groups opened up past 60 m to be unacceptable from an accuracy standpoint (up to an 8” group at 100m).

However, once the lethargic bullet found the metal Ram silhouettes at 100 m, it had enough energy to knock’em down.

I shot Q-22s also from a S&W 41, Ruger II and a S&W 617 (10 shot revolver). Accuracy up to 25 yards was good-to-excellent for me. As advertised, there is not enough blow-back energy to activate the semiautomatic slides for ejection nor chambering the next round. Manual re-cocking for each shot was required. This ammunition would be of little use to most semiautomatic shooters (particularly where timing constrictions are imposed such as Timed or Rapid Fire strings), but does unintentionally add another layer of 'safety' in use with beginners (since another round is not automatically chambered once the trigger is pulled).

The Q-22 will not be added to my long range competition ammunition locker, but will be used for close-in training sessions.

Lakers....if you want something that's a little on the quiet side but still does well at long range try the CCI standard velocity. Its what my kids grew up shooting and at 1050fps still performs down range. Its what I use when I know I'm going to be shooting a lot past 35-40yrds.

I bought some a few weeks ago. It was either at William's Arms or Gagnon's. I have been shooting the CB longs and get a nickel size group at 25 yds. With the -22 it was about 1.25". I'm going to try it out of a few of my other 22's to see if it does any better.
They are slightly louder.

I bought some yesterday, went out back.......fired a few rounds in my 10/22.....very quite.....but the ruger turns into a single shot.Maybe my Ruger needs breaking in....or there is not enough oomph in the charge.
I like these rounds.

I bought a brick yesterday, I'll let you guys know how it shoots. $3.49/box at Stittsville Shooting Range. I might use it to shoot grouse while deer hunting if accuracy and noise are acceptable.
